I have two children and I built my own web site. That way, I can be in control of what I put on the site and I can work when I want to. It is not a scam. It is not a get rich quick scheme, either.
It does take a few months to get things up and running and you do have to write a lot of your own content (pages) if you want the search engines to find you, but it is very much worth it. The feeling of fulfillment I get is even better than the Google checks (I have ads on my site).
My site has been up since September of last year and it continues to grow. You can see what it looks like below. If you are interested in finding out more, read the "My Passion" page. It will give you more information about me and what I did to start my site.
It's really worth it, too. Once the site is up and running, the income just keeps coming in. It may not make you independently weathy (although some people are doing extremely well), but, at least for me, it's enough to afford a family vacation each year, support my scrapbooking habit, buy extra luxuries for myself and my family (and pay for the site each year).
