I want to work from home (data entry). Does anyone work from home?

I started working from home doing data entry back in 1995. One very effective way I gained local customers was to create simple postcards on my computer. I had the local print shop copy them on card stock and cut them to size. I mailed these postcards out to companies I found in the yellow pages who might need data entry or related services. (Look in categories like data processing, data entry, fulfillment, and marketing services ... to name a few.)

If you consider that almost all businesses should have a database of past customers as well as current clients and prospects - the need for data entry, and database management, is ongoing. You could offer your services to local real estate agents, mortgage loan officers, landscaping companies, retail stores, insurance agents, etc. who could really grow their business - their customer base - by having a good database of past and present clients ... and consistently keeping in touch with those contacts. They might need someone (like you) to enter old printed reports, boxes of unorganized paperwork, files, and even scribbled notes into a database program (Basic: MS Excel / Good: MS Access / Best: Contact management program such as ACT!) and help them manage changes and additions. You could even expand your service to include marketing tasks such as preparing manual mailings, a monthly newsletter, or email messages.

If you don't want to gain your own customers locally, there are online opportunities through legitimate freelance sites and real companies who "hire" independent contractors. Many of the so-called data entry program websites are not really data entry. In my research, they are cleverly called data entry but are truthfully a form of online advertising that is difficult to understand and profit from.

The great thing about data entry is that it is a simple service to offer - there is great demand for it - and there are so many related services one can provide to grow and expand their home business. You can have both online and offline customers. You can take your business in the direction you'd like, where your interests and talents lead, and turn it into a long-term, fulfilling and profitable adventure.

The biggest challenge to working from home is balance. Work can literally stare you in the face 24 hours a day just as your family and household obligations and *desires* do. You need to be self-disciplined to plan your time and set good priorities.

The Internet has simplified everything from shopping to banking and now even employment has been made easier because you can have a job online. That is right, as amazing as it sounds you can work from the comfort of your home, while travelingmore pre-screened home based employment opportunities than any other website. Be an independent programmer on freelance sites. Select from hundreds of projects outsourced from various parts of the world which suits to your skill and work. Fix u r costing before starting the project and get it paid thru safe escrow after successfully completing the project.
Remember all you need to have is skills and hard work.

Your best bet will be to join a few online Freelance companies, they always have 100s of data entry jobs available all over the world.

It sounds like we have alot in common, we have five children, three at home. We recently moved to Kentucky due to brain damage my 14 year old suffered in a motorcross accident in California. We had to get out of the rat race and slow down.

We immediately took her to the "Country Vet" who wanted to amputate her two left legs, we said we wanted a second opinion and had to drive 5 hours to a specialist in Louisville, Kentucky. Well its been one week now and $5100.00 dollars later and she's still not home.

I was a photographer in California and basically gave my business away to one of my photographers who had been with me for twenty years. We did about 300 weddings per year and I shot celebrities, like George Burns, Ringo Star, Tony Bennett, Heather Locklear and on and on. Needless to say other than the seasonal resort we needed a income that would allow us to stay at home with the kids.

Finally my answer to your question, a friend of ours shared a opportunity with us that was to good to believe. A company with nothing to sell, nothing to buy, NO experience, NO inventory, NO set hours, NO paperwork, NO accounting, work from home, part time or full time and the lowest start-up fee I've ever seen for owning your own business I've owned my own companies since I was 17. But every company I owned I was trading time for money, and basically the moment I stopped working the income stopped.

We did'nt do anything about this new opportunity due to my male ego that it would not work. So for six months we searched and searched and found nothing. So I checked this company out and we decided to join in Sept. 07. The rest is history, it's by far the best business decision I have ever made. We are now just over $5000 per month, only work about 25 hours per week, have plenty of time with the children and my wife can spend all the time she wants with the zoo, as I call it.

I have not came across a legit data entry job in a long time. One good resource for legitimate hiring companies is http://www.workathomedesk.com which is a free site. If you go to the work at home directory area they have companies listed by type of work. You can check the legitimacy of a company at http://www.wahm.com message board which has a wise work at home community

Actually, most of the data entry jobs online are mostly scams. Maybe there are some genuine companies but it is very rare and difficult to find. Your chances of finding a data entry job will be better done offline, reading your local newspaper.

Maybe you can try article writng instead. Goto www.elance.com and see if you can bid for any article writing jobs instead. Or goto some other forums, type into google and see for this freelance jobs.

This is much better and safer, but remember to get a paypal account so that they can pay you after you completed the assignments. You can charge between $4 to $7 articles and if you start gaining a reputation, you can even charge higher at $10.
