Good on you for thinking of helping others.
All successful businesses have to solve people's problems.
However the first thing you need to establish is there a viable market.
The old folks unable to do all the chores in the home will be on low & declining incomes & will like to moan as have the poor mindset of focusing on their problems not what they want in life.
What service would you do for them- doing everything yourself will mean you master none.
Having a team of specialists could be viable. |

Do your homework, go talk to charities that support the elderly and find out if there is a recognized need in your community. Also drop in your details and ask if they will use you for any people they have that come to them.
However, don't forget you will need vetting and an enhanced CRB check (in the UK) as well as anyone who works for you. I would do this before you approach people like: Age Concern, Carers, Social Services, Red Cross etc
If you do decide to pursue this, don't forget a realistic rate offered to the elderly people will be far more attractive, and don't forget these guys are on a pension and cannot afford very much and frankly will be very wary of you. So prove yourself and get in with the charities and Social Services as I mentioned, they are more likely to employ you if you are recommended. And it would be a good idea to remain completely transparent with set prices per task, rather than an hourly rate which could be expanded.
There already are a few voluntary schemes which supply this type of help in the home. And the fact that these guys don't charge make it direct competition!
These Older people do need help in the home, but social services and care services already supply services to those in the most need. So really your niche market would be those who do not already qualify for assistance through Social Services.

There's already something like that, it's where a CNA comes to the home of an elderly and/or disabled person and helps them and takes care of their home. |

Fantastic idea! To make it work, you might need to hook up with a charity for the elderly or your local social services department. That way, they could contract with you to do the work needed and you wouldn't have to try charging a fee to people who maybe couldn't afford it or may be too vulnerable to cope with making payments. there's lots of volunteer programs like that. i don't think it would work too well as a small business as many older people that are unable to do various things are usually living on a fixed income OR they were successful enough in their life where they have people to rely on that will help them. |

Right on the ball! Elderly people also need someone to run to fulfill prescriptions for them and other errands outside of the house. If you can get the jobs and have other responsible people do the actual work, you can have a really BIG business. |
