First off, you don't "try" a business. If you set your mind to just "try" something, then you've already set yourself up to fail in business. A business takes time to build. It doesn't happen over night, and again you can't just try to make it happen, you make it happen. Trying really gets you no where. You must learn to do it and not try it. Plain and simple.
I have a friend that created a blog on home based business opportunities. Plenty of different people that we know in different industries that have made their business successful, and did not just try it, but did it. I have my own successful business and so does my friends that are in business.

I am currently working my home based business. I have found that I get out of it, what you put into it. I do work when I want to and make a lot of money when I want to. (My actual field is accounting of which I have a degree and I and certified in that field.) And yes, I am now doing my home based business full time, making more $$$'s than I was in the field I was in.
It really depends on what you are looking to do in a home based business. First you would research it, then get the business' D&B look at how sound the company is once done, decide how much time you want to put in to the business. There will be some sort of start up cost, nothing in life is free. If it is free; there is catch somewhere down the road; of which you wind up spending more money than you would expect.

I work from home along side my part-time job on the weekends. The company I work for is a very reputable company, we have been in business for 23 years and have never hads a year where our sale shave decreased. Right now I have enrolled enough customers with the company that I get my products for free, which is about $100-$175 a month, but I work my business when I want to. I have a full day everyday with raising my 18 month old daughter, keeping up with my house cleaning and still working on renovating and organizing my house, while working on the weekends and still having time to do fun activities with my family. I am still working fairly hard to earn enough to have "extra cash". The company has great advancement opportunities and you can take your time getting to where you want to be. If you work hard enough and get to the top the company will pay you to buy a brand new car, they always have monthly incentives on top of your residual income, this month they are going to give away a free months supply of gas, and new directors will get 2 months of free gas.
