I’d say go with a professional, for several reasons. The costs are comparable (at least at the place I was at). You may pay a little more, but it saves a lot of headaches in the long run. You have someone that will (hopefully) take your vision and do the work for you. Many times it’s also more convenient because many of them roll additional costs (like hosting) into a package. And the quality places will also offer extras you may need, like traffic generators, spam filters for email accounts, e-business suites, etc. |

Yes, its cheaper and saves time to use templates.
The easiest way for a novice to build a web site is to start with a web template. Web Templates can be customized and you can use the layout but swap the graphics etc.... this will get you comfortable with basic HTML design and an HTML editor (like Dreamweaver).
Here are some resources for free or inexpensive templates that are easy to edit and manage.
Webmaster Templates - http://www.webmaster-templates.net
Free Web Templates - http://www.freewebtemplates.com/
Web Design Elements - http://www.webdesign-elements.com
Free Website Templates - http://www.freewebsitetemplates.com/
Free Layouts - http://www.freelayouts.com/
Free Templates Online - http://www.freetemplatesonline.com
HTML website templates can significantly ease the burden of designing and creating websites by providing webmasters with a ready-made web layout, structure, basic graphics, and color scheme.
The templates can generally be edited and customized with any HTML editor. The biggest advantage for webmasters using ready-made templates is the amount of time that can be saved. |

I dont know what you have in mind for building your website? But if you want to make some residual money(must be patient) as I have been. I knew absolutely nothing when I started and now have a new site already ranked in Google. Only a 1 but it was quick. Go to www.websitebargainstore.com and click on the Build A Niche Store menu button. Read all about it. It is super if one can be a little patient and work with it. I now have 5 sites up and running and building more. Hoping things work out for you whatever you do!! |

There are many hosts that include templates in their package.
There is a lot more to a successful website then just looks. It is the quality of the content that will drive traffic to your site from the search engines. I have an example of my website through my profile page here. If you would like me to share my money saving tips, I would be more than happy.

It is cheaper to do it yourself, but if you are not a web programmer then you may end up with a crapy website no one will look at. I suggest you at least try zen cart or joomla (joomla somthing like that) depending on the site you are creating.
I use both when designing site, feel free to contact me for pointers. |

hire someone else is the most expensive choice , I prefer to buy templates under those conditions
1.it has to be css not table so the search engine will crawl my site and pick it up
2.it has to be new and PLR means able to change it and put my name on it
3.it has come with step by step instruction how to set my template and make it alive
I found Joel Instant website templates are the best since it has just release 3 days ago and only available for limited number of people , he will end the sales this 7th May, I like that for those reason
-only few people will have the same unique templates i have so my site will likely being pick up by google easily for uniqueness
-it come with video tutorial that will help anyone who never made a website to make on in a very short amount of time
in my opinion its better to learn from guru rather than spending money on a design who might not optimize your site well
i left a link below for your reference about Joel instant website templates |

If you want a web site to sell something (Really the only reason to have a web site!) the web site costs would be a business expense like everything else, rent, furniture etc.
If you sell something then that is your business. But designing web sites is not your business.
So let someone else do it who is in the business of designing web sites. A cook cooks, an auto mechanic auto-mechanics, a hair dresser hair-dresses, a web designer web-designs.
My two cents (and 2 points I guess too!)
I web-design. (Hint!) |

it depends what sort of website you want - I set up a transactional website a couple of years ago and used ekm powershop. they are very good, and result is an easy to use site (for you and your customers), and you have the reassurance that there is a help line and tech support.
they also have in-house design people - my website is in the process of being updated by them (a good deal) - look at www.wondermummy.com now and in a couple of weeks to see the difference.
I'd only do it yourself if you're very confident and able at the tech side of things. |
