DeRoy C | IF I start my own housekeeping business; should I charge by the hour or by the job? |
I figured by the job cause it might be more sufficient that way for me and the customer. what do most housekeeping business owners usually charge? |

Charge by the job. If you are feeling good you'll get done faster than on days that you don't. It should be the same price every time, no matter how fast or slow you get it done. Don't do anything free for them or they will expect it always for free. Charge extra for holiday weeks like thanksgiving or Christmas, unless they are a regular customer. Cleaning an oven or fridge should be extra also. Don't EVER give a confirmed price for a job til you've seen if first. They'll rip you every time if you do. Some don't look bad at first, so take a good long look. You don't want to start cleaning and then find out you need more money cause it's worse than you thought. I worked 14 yrs cleaning houses to raise my kids. It's hard work, but pays well. Best of luck with it. |

By the job. |

I would charge per job. Your clients will be more likely to trust your work ethic knowing you won't work slower to make more money. Also, clients are not typically home when you are there so there is no way to be certain on their end how many hours you worked. |

By the JOB, because some houses are dirtier than others. If you charge by the hour, but don't tell the customer how long it will take you, they won't know up front how much it's going to cost them, they don't know how fast or slow you work, only you do. They will be more inclined to say yes if you give them an up front cost for the job. |

As a user of housekeeping services for years, I suggest you charge by the job - charging by the hour gives the consumer an undefined amount to be paid.
Additionally, qualify what you will clean and what you will not. This will help you predict the number of hours that you will work on a job |

Most housekeepers charge by the job based on the size of the house, number of bathrooms, etc., and have a delineated list of what is included.
But I have discovered there is a niche that no-one is really filling, which is laundry, ironing, windows, other odds and end. You might consider charging by the job for the normal stuff (general straigtening up, vacuuming, floors, bathrooms, kitchen, dusting) and then offer additional 'by the hour' services for things like laundry, windows, ironing, etc. |

by the hour cause a job might take 3hours and you only charge $100 an hour so if you charge like $40 an hour it more money!!!! |
