This is a more "general" approach to your question, but I think it has some merit.
Consider the demographics of our country... We are a population that is rapidly aging, so the number of over-60 people living in the U.S. will increase dramatically over the next 30-40 years, at least. SO... That said, start thinking in terms of what product or services you can offer to senior citizens. What will they need? How can you make their lives easier, more enjoyable, etc? |

Well, I'm not quite sure what your interest is in, but my husband started out 10 yrs. ago working with a sub- contractor doing fences. When this friend had passed my husband could not give up doing the work. He became a sub- contractor for himself. He works under another company, but as he did more and more fences his name came notice instead of the companies name. My husband then got business insurance and hired a couple of people to help him do jobs for the fencing company that gave him jobs. His name was getting even more popular. Homes that he put up fences for did not recommend the company that recommended him instead. He started putting out business cards with a company name for himself. We run the bussiness in our own home at this moment. Actually we will probably always do this since it is a fencing business. The only other thing we had to learn about was how to do our taxes. Which wasn't very hard at all. Like I said I'm not exactly sure what kind of business you are interested in, but here is one tip you may want to go by!!! |

Generally you can get some great guidelines and info from Small Business Bureau and Chamber of Commerce. First you need to decide what your strengths and interest are. Then decide if there is a market or need in your area or if it can be developed on-line to reach out further. Develop a business plan and mission statement. You'll also need to figure out how much start up is going to cost and factor in enough to be able to pay bills and marketing during start up and lean times. It is critical you do not try to go day to day. It could take up to 3 years to get going, perhaps longer. |
