If A Large Store Like Wal-Mart Makes An Error In Your Favor, Do You Report It?
I was at my favorite convenience store this evening picking up a couple things.
It's a small ma & pa business where they know you by first name and make special orders on request.
Well Tammy the cashier made a mistake in my favor, and I was quick to let her know.
I told her that if it was Wal-Mart I wouldn't bother. She laughed and said me neither.
I think many people feel this way. If it's a small store are you willing to point it out as opposed to a chain like Wally World?

No. They don't want their $3.50 back anyway.

Yes, if you notice someone has made a mistake in your favor when giving you change or not swiping in an item of clothing, you should report it. Stealing is stealing it doesn't matter how large or small the store may be. If you went to the store and realized you were charged twice for the same item I'm certain you would speak up and have them correct the error. Integrity is something you either have or you don't. It isn't something that should waver depending on how much money an establishment makes in a day. Its about the individual making the choice to be honest or dishonest.

Well KJT__1st of all hello hope you're having a good nite__I have been in the same situation with QT and I did point out the error & return the cash__
I know that some may feel more loyalty towards the small ma & pa stores but I feel that you should do the right thing no matter if it was Donald Trump who made the mistake__
I really like this proverb__"The right thing.. obtained in the wrong way is still the wrong thing"

I have a problem with big chain stores. I'm a small business owner myself, and I believe it's these small local shops that really move the economy. But I'm not being biased here...I have always felt this way, and it possibly helped me decide to have my own business.

So no, I wouldn't report it...they can afford to take a loss...for most likely they've driven the small shops out in the first place. Yeah, they may have lower prices, but it leads to lower quality, and crappy service. I look at it as karmic repay.

I'm more willing to point it out if it was a mom and pop store than if it was Wal-Mart, because I feel that Wal-Mart could care less about me. That doesn't make it right, though, to short Wal-Mart, even if it was their mistake. I get what you mean, though.

nope i would point it out to walmart too. dishonesty or honesty is more about who you are. walmart or any other big chain store can suck up the loss but they pass it along to ppl like the tammy the cashier and you and i so in the end when you are dishonest you are really only stealing from tammy and yourself.

It is always a good policy to be honest in your dealings with everyone you come in contact with, you will feel better and so will they.

Ringer
I always do whether it's large or small.

Thanks for the thumb down, so you're a self-righteous thief.

Being dishonest is disgusting behaviour, no matter where it occurs.

If you are honest, then you are honest. Stealing is stealing and frankly you should give the money back in either case. Stealing from a mom and pop shop puts the face of the victim right in front of you, where with Wal-Mart you don't. They may not miss the money, but I wouldn't feel right about myself if I kept money that didn't belong to me.

if the cashier makes a mistake with the change i would always point it out. if their drawer comes up short and they've already had a bad week it could get them fired.
