If she gave you notice in writing I don't think you have any obligation to rehire her. But, if she was a faithful worker and an overall good employee you may want to consider letting her come back, or maybe let her know when another opening comes up. |

Better check that out with a lawyer who knows your state laws. My impression is that the employee who gave notice is out of luck. You can always fire her for something or other if needs be. |

Well, You could have two people doing the work. Or you could ask which one would rather stay. Or if you are a tight wad then you could hire the "lower' paid person.
But if the person puts in a 2-week notice they must of had a reason to do it . |

I'd talk to a lawyer. Most lawyers give a free consultation and can probably tell you in that amount of time what you need to do. I would say that if she put it in writing then legally she can't do anything to you. |

Well I only know this because I was in here shoes once, but, no you don't have to keep her on if she gave you her formal 2 weeks notice. You can if you want to keep her but legally you dont have to. I put in my 2 weeks notice and then decided that the drive to the new location was too far 3 days later and they wouldnt let me stay. |
