Is this a franchise business? Is the product ice cream, or is it similar to Hawaiian shave-ice?
Locale, demographics, demand, location of store, all contribute to the success or failure of a business. For example, I wouldn't try to sell ice cream cones in Minnesota in winter. I would, however, probably become a millionaire if I opened a shop in Palm Beach, FL.
Your boyfriend would be well advised to seek help from SCORE, ( Senior Corps of Retired Executives) a group of retired businessmen and women that advise small businesspeople on questions such as this.
And, don't be down on yourself because you don't have business answers for your boyfriend. I earned my stripes by owning and operating an industrial supply house for 25 years. |

It really depends on where the business is going wrong. If it's just low sales, then maybe hire some singing scoopers to get peoples business, offer samples in the middle of the mall, or give out flyers for discounts. Hope this helps. |

I assume he has money to burn, in which case open a club with Ice cream
My idea of a smart business is one that doesn't have overheads, you can start / shutdown anytime, you have no rent to pay. You can take time off.
Like: Wedding DJ, Photographer, Carpet cleaning, computer repair, window cleaning, etc
Even an Ice Cream Truck is a better deal, start a fleet |

It depends on his who hes tring to cater to. Also depends on his comp in the mall. I would need more info to better asess the situation. sorry |

Your boyfriend needs to diversify into coffee and candy. He should consider similar items like smoothies and shakes.
The Mall rent will probably kill him he may want to find a less expensive location and cultivate a theme that attracts customers like entertainment or socializing. |

Your boyfriend needs to get some small business training, and by all means if he can't get an ice cream stand to profitability he certainly will not will do it with a club. Training will be the key to success, then some time working for someone else before he goes out on his own. |

Its a hit or miss , But you have to give it sometime.Ice might not be it this time of year. Sounds like a good location but if you are not able to pay the lease its might be good to get out of it . As far as the club goes You need big bucks to open one. It take along time to open one up. With liquor license and Floor plans and so on..... Good Luck |

offer a coupon for a small free ice cream cone , hand them out in common areas of the mall , post a ad in a local advertising publication that offer dicounts , do not hire people that sing , advertising is the key . Expierment with mixing diffrent flavors and ice cream stuff like candy nuts sauces fruits so forth . Sell frozen yogurt we live in a health concious society , also making smoothies with energy boosters , protein powders , ect will bring in people . Variety and advertising are the keys to a good food vendor of any nature . Try getting people to take a survey in the mall and offer them a free item off the menu you will ultimatly find out what people want to buy in that certain area and you will also be advertising to everyone who you even ask to take a survey |

If it is not doing well, I suggest he closes it. Malls are very, very expensive places to rent space from. Most businesses cannot earn enough profit in that type of location because the lease is too high.
What you bf needs to do is to find a genuine need that is not being met, and then fill that need. Then his business will be successful.
Are the clubs in town overflowing with people? If so, then maybe there is a need for another club to satisfy all those people. However, if the clubs are half empty even on Friday and Saturday nights, then a club will not be any more successful than his current business.
Good luck. |

Any business these days needs two main things.First a product, and two a client base. Will Ice Cream for instance sell in winter time? Would he do better if he offered hot chocolate sauce over Ice Cream? Or Butterscotch sauce. Or turn the business into a winter warmer, and sell soup and toast. Kind of match the season? But it's pointless to hope you can help him. I'm sure he could possibly get better advice from someone locally. There are plenty of people around who act as Mentors these days. Good Luck! |

He needs to make something delicious that is attractive and sinfully good. I just got a brilliant idea. I'm sharing with you my favorite most exotic desert ever. Big cup, filled half way with very small crushed ice, a shot of concentrated passion fruit juice, a shot of Hawaiian punch concentrated continue to fill the cup all the way with freshly cut fruits (my fourth of July mix is bananas, blueberries and strawberries)then cover the top by dripping condensed milk, sprinkle half a hand full of shredded coconut (sweetened) stab the entire thing with a straw and stick a spoon on the other end. If this doesn't get his shop moving then I give up. OH yeah! call it after me Kiddo's Cholado. :-)
PS. my friend in New York is making a killing with this. I love inventing sweet stuff. |

I'm not sure what your question is. Your wording babbles on and on and doesn't make much sense. Is this a business people would like to go to? Do people know that it is there.?
Does he advertise? Offer specials, Buy one get one 1/2 price or free. People like deals especially at the mall. Are there any gimmicks to get people to come in and spend money? If he hasn't been at it long, maybe he needs to try harder. Did he research this business before he opened it. If it's a corporation or franchisee, they should offer assistance with marketing. |
