If you could...what would you??

If you were given a company that is all setup and ready to go with about 15K in the bank, what kind of business would you start?

Golf or bike shop. Follow your passion.

A used book store. It is a shame that books are so expensive and could be recycled so easily. Maybe people could read more.

Even with a turn key business but only having 15K operating capital in the bank, it would really limit your options to something that has a low overhead, at least at the beginning. I am thinking that my next business that I am going to open will be a learning center for the elderly, where they can come and learn how to use computers, use the Internet, even play games on line or just on the computer and take basic computer classes. Even make it a place where they can have some coffee and tea and visit with others. Kind of a cyber cafe / computer school for the elderly.

I have always wanted to own and operate a bowling alley.

Wow... great question.

The biggest problem is coming up with something that is in demand, allows you to diversify as well as maintain a nice stock without being to much in the negative.

1. An internet business and eBay store - Maybe selling arts and craft stuff. Sometimes locally you can purchase these from local makers to sell on line. And you can sell custom items. It has minimal overhead because custom order are made to order. Only the stock items where you need one to three have to be ready. The diversity comes from all the different crafts and art work you may have access to. NOTE: If there is a large demand in your area for this you could open a storefront somewhere or a booth in the mall.

2. A comic book store - This however is risky. You must have a large client list to purchase the new releases since this is where most of your profit will come from. You can also sell custom toys and figures produced by some manufactures. Risky, but offers some diversity in product like card games and such.

3. A portable Party Business - You would serve company picnics, parties, birthday events, family events. You would need the blow up slide, the jumper style blow up building and other stuff including some older video machines. this stuff would be set-up where ever the party/picnic or event was held. You could include doing car shows, city events and so on.

Anything you would do like computers, electronics, bike shop, etc you would have to compete against Target, K-Mart and Wal-Mart which would be impossible since they purchase in bulk. You are limited to the lesser side of business with only $15,000 to invest in your business.

A restuarant business has a high overhead and permits that will be needed to sell liguor and beer, meeting health codes and meeting inspection requirements.

Computer hardware/software store. Everyone is always going to need a computer.

Either Jewellery or Pet Store

Sports bar! I've always wanted to run one and I know I would make it THE spot to go.

A toy store where kids could try out the toys before they buy them or rent to own.

probably a Restaurant

gift shop or antique store. someone started an antique store where i live and the prices are really decent. he finds the items himself and they are really nice and funky.
