Patent regulations vary from country to country. In australia for example, you cannot patent merely an idea, it MUST have a practical and commercial adaptation and you must be able to write a full specification of it. It cannot have been done before. It cannot have been 'prior' published. Which, basically means it cannot have been written in any document anywhere if you want to patent it. Depending what country you are in, do a google search on "Countryname, Patent and trademark office" and you should get to your government department |

This has actually been discussed in the news recently, as many tax lawyers and their firms have "patented" a workaround in the application of the tax laws.
Ask yourself one thing before you proceed: is it going to disenfranchise any group of people (primarily those in the middle to lower economic strata).
If it's an idea that will benefit others in addition to yourself, then by all means, try and get a patent. |

If you're going to propose it to someone you need to have a lawyer draw up a confidentiality agreement BEFORE you disclose anything. This means that once they sign it, and after you have pitched your idea, they can not incorporate or reveal any of your ideas without your express permission. |

Write out your idea with as much detail as you can then mail it to yourself, but do not open it. The post mark will act as a government proof of date until you can get your idea patented.
And for the person who gave this entry a thumbs down, at least I did not shrug my shoulders with an "I don't know' like most people do. Give a valid reason that you feel this idea is bogus supporting your negative vote. |
