It would be illegal to put it into their mailboxes, but you can do it on their door.
I think you would get a better response by posting a notice on the bulletin boards at grocery stores though--you're looking at trying to reach mothers, and those are the people who do the family grocery shopping. |

You should charge 8 dollars an hour for one kid and for every additional kid, up the ante by a dollar. I don't think its illegal, but you need to ask first if you want to hang it in a place of buisness.
Place them in people's mailboxes. |

I don't think its a very good idea for you to be putting your details on/through people's doors. I don't want to sound patronizing but there are some weirdos out there. So whether or not its legal... I wouldn't do it! Plus, you might get some crazy kids that you'd rather not be babysitting!
A safer way might be to ask your parents to ask their friends with young children if they need babysitters. That way you'll know what the parents and kids are like. Or if you really want to advertise maybe do it in a safer kind of environment like a church/synagogue or if you volunteer at any kids clubs e.g. girl scouts, or have younger siblings... ask their friends parents.
I'd charge at minimum wage, I don't know what that is in America but here (UK) its about $10... or you could just leave it up to the parents to negotiate it with you! |

Flyers depend on the community. Most people don't like flyers because they just blow all over the neighborhood and make a mess.
No idea about the market rate. How about doing a door to door personal survey with people in your neighborhood for reasonable price. Not only do you get some good information, they will know that you are available. |

I'm not sure of the "legalities". I doubt anyone would make a big deal. Go for it, it's a great way to let your neighbors know what you're offering. Another place to post fliers which is definitely legal here in California, is to post them at the coffee shops and supermarkets.
As far as rate, do not settle for less than 8.00 an hour. Here where I live, most girls can get anywhere from 10-20 and hour and they charge more for more kids.
You could also offer a group setting where moms can save some money by hiring one sitter, YOU, and pooling their money together. You still charge a decent flat rate per child.
Good Luck and Have fun! |

I think you can be assured that even if there was a law against it that nobody is going to arrest a 13 year old babysitter.
In NJ, my 14 year old charges 7/hr. I would at least charge 5.

I don't think so. I don't live there so I wouldn't know.
But start out $3 an hour, and then raise it to $5 if you get alot of buisness. |

Since you're 13, I would go with the "It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission" theory. If you're not suppose to do it, you'll be told but nothing is going to happen.
We pay our babysitter $5.00 an hour. You also might want to think about get CPR certified through the American Red Cross. You might be able to charge a bit more and it's a great thing to put on your flier.
BTW, good for you for being resourceful!

Don't go all over the city, just in your neighborhood to start. $4 an hour is what I charged way back... i suggest start with family first, neighbors, family friends, then public :) |

It is not illegal, but only put them on people you know, or family friends know. Never walk up to a stranger's house and put a flyer on their house. Especially not if it has your last name, phone number, or address on it. Charge from $3-$5 per hour. Before you start to babysit, take a first aid class and make sure you know how to handle babies, toddlers, pre-schoolers, and school-aged kids. Have a lot of games on hand and tell the parents what you will do! Good luck!

Maybe 5 dollars an hour.I don't think you should put things on people's door maybe you could ring on people's door bells and give them a flyer and tell them about it. |

I'm not sure about illegal, but I think it may be better to put them under people's doors instead...I would not want a flier on my door, it may make me not want your services anymore. |
