frogdog | Is Arbonne a pyramid scheme? |
I am trying to decide whether to pursue a business with Arbonne. I know it's about personal choice. I compare it to Tupperware or Creative Memories, pampered Chef...etc. other home-based businesses. I get negative comments about it being a pyramid. The company calls it "networking and business building." Thoughts? |

Hi,
No it is not a pyramid scheme. Arbonne offers a product and their success plan is based on selling and using the products. It is very hard work and is like having any other type of sales job. You must work to be rewarded.
The great thing about network marketing is that unlike traditional jobs, the people that work hard are the ones that are promoted and earn the better income.
Even Donald Trump and Robert T. Kiyosaki stand behind Network Marketing as a great opportunity to create your own business. Do a Google search on them and see what they say.
Also really look at Arbonne's Web Site. out of all the companies you named, I think they may be the only one to put all the statistics online for everyone to see. They provide the information about what people make and how long it takes to reach a level.
Let me know if you have any questions. It is really smart that you are doing your research. I did mine also and in the end I felt Arbonne was the best company for me and I am very happy I picked them.
Best wishes,
Karen |

ARBONNE - Product
Arbonne premium skin care products are formulated in Switzerland at the Arbonne Institute of Research & Development, and made in the U.S.A. Arbonne sells over 350 products through a network of independent consultants.
Independent Consultants may return inventory (as distinguished from products purchased for personal use) or Business Aids which they personally purchased from Arbonne for a refund if the Independent consultant is voluntarily or involuntarily terminating their business relationship with Arbonne, or if the Consultant’s renewal is due and the Consultant has elected not to renew. The product will be repurchased at 90% of the original purchase price less appropriate set-offs and legal claims, if any.
PYRAMID SCHEME – Product
Usually there is no product.
Some schemes may purport to sell a product, but they simply use the product to hide their pyramid structure as evidenced by inventory stocking and lack of retail sales.
Inventory loading occurs when a company’s incentive program forces recruits to buy more products than they could ever sell, often at inflated prices. Pyramids typically do not allow distributors to return inventory.
Lack of retail sales occurs when only people inside of the pyramid buy the product, and not the general public.
ARBONNE - Compensation
* Retail profit on sales of products purchased at wholesale prices from the Company
* Commissions paid on a Consultant’s product sales volume and the sales volume of Consultants on their team or “downline.”
Consultants who do better than their sponsor can even pass them up.
Arbonne publishes on a quarterly basis an Independent Consultant Compensation Summary. The summary provides information on the average quarterly overrides and bonuses that are paid to registered Arbonne Consultants.
PYRAMID SCHEME – Compensation
Commissions are paid for recruiting additional distributors, not selling the product.
The people at the top of the pyramid reap substantial profits, even though little or no product moves through the market.
ARBONNE - Stability of Company
Arbonne was founded in 1975, and the products were introduced in the U.S. in 1980.
PYRAMID SCHEME – Stability of Company
Many pyramid companies are relatively new and cannot substantiate their claims.
ARBONNE - Industry Visibility
Arbonne is a member of the Direct Selling Association, a national trade association of leading network marketing firms. All members must abide by their Code of Ethics.
PYRAMID SCHEME - Industry Visibility
Companies operating as pyramids are not permitted to be members of the DSA. |

It is not a pyramid scheme. I have two aunts who have been very successful at it. I do have to say that some members do proliferate false information to advance sales, but that only reflects badly on them, not on the company as a whole. |

If you ever have any questions about anything being a scam or scheme then take that word and add +scam in Google. |

I was a consultant for Arbonne a few years ago and I love their products, but I wasn't successful. I couldn't get passionate about their products. I know many ladies that are very successful with Arbonne. I currently am a designer with Home & Garden Party. I am having great success with Home & Garden Party and I truly have a passion for the products and the opportunity that I have to offer to others. You are doing the right thing by researching these companies. A few years ago Arbonne was "debt free" and I'm sure they are to this day, but you want to check into it. Home & Garden Party's founders are Steve and Penny Carlisle, and they had been successful in other business ventures and in return they wanted to pay it forward. They founded Home and Garden Party in 1996, and is a christian based company that is also debt free. Two very important qualities I was looking for in a company. The advice I have for you is to find a company and product that you are or can become passionate about. I attended Rally last week and it truly was amazing. I can't speak of other companies Rally's as this is my first to attend, but these ladies that are succeeding truly are genuine and they definitely work hard to get where they are, but why work hard in the corporate world to further along someone else when you may work for yourself and determine your own paycheck. It all depends on you, you get out of your business what you put into it. I say go for it!! It cost me $99 to join H&GP and I received over $275 in product, it was definitely worth the ivestment!! Please contact me if you have more questions, I would be glad to try and answer them for you or point you in the right direction. Also, it isn't a Pyramid when there are products involved. These companies that ask you to pay a big chunk of cash up front I would definitely stear clear of. Best Wishes to you!! |

Hi, what Arbonne is, is a Direct Sales company and what that means is it is a person to person business. The products go from the company directly to the client through an Independent Consultant. Because it is a Direct Sales company they don't have to inflat the prices to cover advertising and lease spaces. Some of the profits for company are put back into research for new products for the populace. In fact just a few months ago they came out with a new line. They have one of the best compensation plans among the Direct Sales companies out there, and the products are consummable so you will have returning clients if you choose to build a business. You are welcome to email me with any questions you have and I will spend with you answering any of your questions. Good luck to you. Terri Thomas |

Well, everyone I know who was "doing great" in network marketing was working like a dog all the time - once you have your network "built", the entire residual aspect is a myth because people constantly are dropping out of network marketing - it is very hard work so when people drop out, you need to start recruiting again. Then all of those companies make the people who are doing well go to rallies for the new members all over the country (and at their own expense) to talk about how much money they are making. There is no time to enjoy that money, though - if you do not go around and talk, they start penalizing you.
And the whole talk about "having your own company" is just junk - you are a commission-only sales person without a salary, without security and without benefits! You never get to "sit back and watch the money roll in". The earliest people into the structure are making some long-term cash and may be able to retire on it - but the rest of the so-called upper level people get burned out within a few years and when they try to retire, they are just cut out and the top people get all their hard-earned income.
So you can sell the product and make some cash, but the residual earnings thing is very time intensive and it never gets any easier as you move up the structure - I've know friends who were emeralds and even diamonds in network marketing - the organization just wore them out.
Also listen carefully - groups like Amway have a missionary side and you cannot progress unless you become born-again into their style of Christianity! (Called "Night of Promises" and other such euphemisms and takes place at a retreat when you are three or four levels up.)
No - you will not have a business, really. A good sales person can make some money at it and if you have some gung-ho friends and/or are very persuasive, you can make some more money, but those people who come to the rallies and boast? Those people are marrionettes being forced to come and talk to the crowd.
And watch out for them trying to make you dis-associate yourself from anyone who does not "support you whole-heartedly" in the network marketing, too -that can mess you up long-term when you drop the network marketing and have to tell the buddies you deserted that they were right... |

It always amazes me that people still think of MLM as a "Pyramid Scheme". Most people who make those claims cannot even identify what a pyramid really is.
It's a ridiculous claim, billion dollar companies would hardly be able to fly under the radar of the government and continue promoting a pyramid...which is illegal.
The first thing you must understand when it comes to a successful home based business, is that you CANNOT listen to the naysayers. Most of the people who tell you how bad it is, how illegal it is, how unethical it is, are in a word, BROKE. I prefer not to take advice that concerns my future from broke people.
Arbonne, like any other home business, requires dedication and perseverance. You have to be prepared to get out there and promote your product, sell as much as you can, and find others to do the same. You will build a nice network of people and you can earn as much or as little as you like. The more you put into it, the more you earn. Unlike any JOB (Just Over Broke) out there, there is no cap on your salary. You get a great deal of support not only from the company but from other reps as well.
I say go for it! Give it a shot, but in the meantime, do your homework on home businesses. Invest in books that can help you better yourself and dedicate yourself to learning how to properly run a home based business.
I have 3 home businesses, and if I would have listened to all the negativity, like you're getting here for answers, I would be broke... Just like them!
I chose to take my future in my own hands and earn circles around any income I could have ever had working for someone else. You can too! |
