Is January part of the "slow season"?
My father runs a business, is in the yellow pages, has a website, is listed on Dex, etc. yet he isn't getting any calls. The Yellow pages that he is in is fairly new (January 2008), but it was being distributed right before Thanksgiving. He got one call in December and the woman never returned his call back to her. Since then, not one. Not one question, no comparing prices, nothing. Are we being impatient? Is January part of the slow season for a tile repair/restoration business?

I'd say yeah. Beginning of the year is when people look at their credit card debt and say, "Holy crap, I spent how much on X-mas?!?" When they look at the cracked tile, they say, "I can walk on that for a couple months until the Visa bill's paid off." It's not like it's a furnace. If your furnace is broken in January, unless you live somwhere really warm, you fix it no matter what. A tile you dropped a pot on... not so much an emergency.

You may want to take out an ad, get a local paper to write a puff piece on your business, and join the local Chamber of Commerce.

It depends on his business. Snow removal is big in January, selling convertable cars, not so much.

try posting ads in local newspapers, post flyers on mailboxes, and maybe even do some telemarketing. Look into other tile repair businesses in the area and their prices. You can then try and offer better deals, discounts, and lower prices. Starting your own business is really hard and it takes time to get customers. After awhile though things should start to spread by word of mouth. January might be a slow month but, that just means you have to work harder.

January is a very slow time and until people get land taxes and personal taxes done it will be slower. I used to have an on line store and I done the flea market thing to and me and my husband are self employed and His business slacks in the winter, Hang in there it happens to ever one that does have a business.

yes business is definantely slow at this point. Gas Stations anywhere is slow. Nobody travels or anything at this time of year therefore not much goes on.

Jan is slow for all business except accountants (taxes), and as a new business even more. do you advertise? if not get going, and I dont mean yellow pages, look into other inexpensive advertising.

genrally speaking, most businesses and retailers are very slow in January, because are recoving from all of their holiday madness (shopping, getting thngs fixed...etc). i would be concerned if no one calls between mid-Feburary and early March. i hope i helped you :)

If you guys just started the business recently then yes you guys are being impatient. You guys should advertise some more so you can get your Business recognized. The yellow pages alone will not be enough.

January is bad for all businesses, most people spent a lot during christmas and in January will feel the crunch, try dropping some birdseeds in the door of your business, it is said to atract customers.
