Yes, a person can have full potential in being successful by entering entrepreneurship but they have reasons.
People don't have the money yet to take as their capital which is why they cannot be able to become an entrepreneur. You have to make sure that your capital is enough to be spent for your production and for your workers. You have to make sure that you are responsible enough to handle all things and you should be comfortable in taking risks if you want to be a successful entrepreneur. There are many challenges when you take on entrepreneurship which is why you have to tackle them. You have to have the characteristics of an entrepreneur and should be able to posses them to become a successful entrepreneur. |

You seem like a very intelligent young lady. Even though my family had their own business, I always seemed to drift into getting a "real" job. I don't think that I wanted the responsibility to really take care of myself.
It wasn't until a series of events (and 30+ years in the corporate world), that I finally realized my potential of creating my own future. I guess you can say that I needed a kick in the butt - something that was beyond my control.
I can honestly say that I am happier now than I have ever been. If I'm lining anyone's pockets now, it is mine. I can actually make more money than the people that I've always worked for - and live the lifestyle that I choose to live!
So yes, find your passion in life - don't let anyone say no - and you go girl! |

Like many other questions, there is no simple answer.
There are many advantages for working for yourself as the other respondents have noted.
However, there are several mountains to climb that you have to address or you are bound to fail. Remember that many new businesses do fail
As an entrepreneur you have to be able to not only be excellent in your own field whatever that is but also be at least competent in all the other areas of business-marketing, sales(not the same thing) personnel, purchasing, accounting, finance. You also have to have deep pockets to survive until the business generates funds to pay you.
You also must have huge amounts of energy. Damn few sick days when you are working for yourself. Benefits might not exist for quite a while. A very thick skin is also an advantage as many people are trying to take you down |

First of all, I would have to say that working "under someone"has connotations that we might not want to go into here in this forum.
It could be misinterpreted in a number of ways and perhaps it is your intention to create a Freudian slip. Working for someone, is less misleading and I work "with" my employees, they don't work under me.
There can be many benefits in allowing someone else to take on all the responsibility for running a company while you collect your check and do your job, regardless of what the business takes in, you are assured a pay ( unless your job is straight commission) Not to mention that you may consider doing both. Let someone else guarantee your income while you gamble that you have a business plan that may allow you to do what you love, or at least pay you more. I'd suggest starting real small (4 hours a week) and as you start to see results, increase your commitment to your own business. Ask you current employer if it's possible to have flex time, say 4 ten hour days for a full time week, and when things really start to roll go to part time if possible. Be honest with your employer about your wishes, and be sure not to use the time you are being aid by them to further your business plans, as this would not be fair to your employer. Keep whatever benefits you can for as long as you can, buying them for your company may be imprudent for quite a while. It's admirable that you have these desires, just remember success will require that you make sacrifice of your time and energy, and not all endeavors succeed, so keep the day job!! |

Congrajulations. This is the beginning of a great and untiring journey to achieve the goals in life. The moment the thought entered your mind and you have started scratching everywhere. To do or not to do. You must be confident, strong,(Both Physically and Mentally), willing to accept failures as stepping stones and go forward. There are no obstacles, if you can strongly deny it or cross it. Thinking that you have great potential and skill is good. But how good is your skill for your project. Think and dream of your goal. Live on it. With all this there is a thing called LUCK, which you should have.
Otherwise, simply get into the employment. 75% of the entreprenures are failures but this does not discourage the confident ones to dream and creat history. TO achieve you must have skill, intelligence, prerseverence,willing to work hard and above all the confidence. In the words of our great Teacher Swami Vivekananda: `You must have tremendous perseverance and the confidence that the mountain will crumble at my feet and I will drink the ocean. Absolutely, self employed person can become rich, not an employee. Have you heard ever that an employee became crorepati? It's not possible. Because employee work to earn money, and self employed work to earn time. He enrol people and through their work-hours, he complete his own task, and ultimately make more money. There is a say, Time is Money, and only self employed person can earn time. Moreover, self employed person can be a medium of providing few people earning opportunity, and that is big work satisfaction.

(i) Working for somebody else assures a steady income. At a stage in life when one has dependents it is a safe option. (ii) Perhaps if like-minded people joined up to form a safety net for friends who are taking the plunge, there would be more 'potential people' who turn their passion into achieving something in life.
(iii) Individuals who are dithering about beginning to work on their own must factor in the health element - bosses are almost always health hazards!
