essentially it is. though many have become millionaires on ebay- so it cannot be referred to as a simple carboot sale- it is unique and anything after will be compared to it. |

I would only get a fraction of their value through e-bay but when I find markets with those who "know their stuff" I average higher profits. Just my experience. |

from what i've seen things generally sell for more money on ebay than at a carboot, plus you can set a realistic reserve price on ebay and if it doesn't sell you can re-list it again, you can't do that at a carboot without keep going back week after week to try and flog it. from personal experience at trying a carboot people really don't want to pay anything at all for good stuff, and after a hard day in the cold i gave up and ended up taking what was left to a charity shop to get rid of it! |

it looks like a carboot to me - people selling their unwanted tat, dodgy perfumes, etc.
i tend not to buy stuff i don't want or need but if i do have something i no longer have a use for i prefer to five it to a friend who can use it, put it on freecycle or give it to charity

Ebay is like any Auction online or live auction,
ppl get what they pay for with no real guarantees as to what they are buying. so they are taking a risk when buying.
Dealers go to auctions to resell they expect to make a profit so paying full price would be a bit silly.
When selling on Ebay put your starting bid at the minimum you are willing to take for the item, if someone is interested at that price it will sell. |

yes it is pretty much Eba is good for selling things that are extrmely rare e.g. football tickets to a sold out game where ppl will pay thousands! but if u want to make a pofit good luck! |

Yes, it is an online carboot.
Buyers only want bargains and if you don't start your items at 99p or less, they just won't bid. Even when they do show a bit of interest, you sell at below what you want/hope for it.
A lot of the trouble is that there's so much competition - so many sellers - that buyers are spoilt for choice (and so can keep prices down).
eBay themself don't help by promoting it as a place to grab a bargain. |

I joined Ebay thinking it might be a step above carbooting, an international online market auction site where I might have a slightly improved chance of selling my better unwanted stuff at a reasonable price, simply because it reaches a wider audience, but my experience of it thus far has been disappointing. As long as it remains a buyers market (and a lucrative business for Ebay) I can't see the point of participating - after I don't offer up my wares for other peoples benefit exclusively - I want to make some money too! |
