Is eBay finally facing competition from other successful online auction sites?

mande
I wish!

They have a near monopoly now, and that's never good.
I wish there were one or two other giant online auction sites.

Simon
no because i don't know from who.

Not even close. People compain about the huge rate hike, but so few will leave it won't make a difference.

yes, but a lot of it has to do with the current financial situation in america. banks lent out too much money to people to aid in the purchasing of houses, but people are not paying the loans back. the banks then sold the bonds to corporations like ebay who invest in the bank in the hopes of making a profit. now that companies have bought billions of dollars worth of these bonds, they are not getting the money back and lost HUGE sums of money. now that people are having to give back the houses they "bought," many people don't want to buy houses and therefore the real estate market is suffering.

now ebay has lost TONS of money and are suffering as a result.

Yes, and the new changes they made to screw over sellers certainly won't help.

I dont think so, there are loads of competition on ebay, but i aint heard of them as much, Ebay is the Walmart of online auctioning, i know they are taking away the right for sellings to write feedback on buyers, but who cares if you are a good buyer , if you sign up to ebay who knows, online auction sites are a risk both ways, a seller has the initial control and if they dont deliver what they advertise they deserve bad feedback, and just because they are pissed that they now dont have a 100% perfect feedback rating, doesnt mean they should waste everyones times by giving another gab back to the buyer, plus ebay are doing more stuff to make it easier for buyers to get there money back when sellers are realling scamming, also Pay Pal is owned and operated by Ebay, most companies are now accepted pay pal as a payment method, ebay competition sites arent nearly this advanced.

Yes.

Although nobody can match their exposure and the monopoly they have at the moment, they have become complacent and don't care about their customers as much.

All it takes is for a smaller, faster and more nimble competitor to stick their neck out.

There are new online auction sites coming on board all the time. I've just seen a new one enter the market in recent weeks. It looks like it may have potential.

Yes, they are cutting their rates for sellers...finally. I believe in 3 years, e-bay will cease to exist as other auction sites become more popular.
