For the last 2years. my wife and i have been trying to find her a work at home job, or own business.
We have been to seminar on different things like national grants. This is a crook of crap it was the one that got me . I believed in everything they said. they took me for $1000, and tried to get more from me a couple months later and i told them to stick it.
DO DON'T fall for this grant crap , it is very hard to get a grant. and these companys use that to take your money.
Just last night we went to a medical transcriptionist seminar. We left thinking this might be it, but DID NOT give up one penny.
it was about online classes to learn how to do this job working at home , making great money,.
All for $2500.
We went home got on the computer and started to check out what we had been told that night, and find it to,is not true. There does not seem to be any work out there in this field.
It looks like the best business to start is the one that scams peaple.

I agree with you that 99% of work at home programs are scams and that legitimate home based business are rare. Infact a lot of work at home opportunities that makes you some cash also turns you into a scammer by selling the same scam.
But some business are legitimate. Strong future international -SFI is a member of the BBB and the Lincoln chamber of commerce also, Charter Financial is a member of the BBB and the Houston chamber of commerce.
I would be honest with you, you would need to learn some languages and skills of any business you choose to invest in and don't expect to make money without investing a cent.

GEEZ! That would really freak me out. If that had of happened to me, I probably would of ran at the business that was offered to me! Not all home based business's are scams. There are a lot out there, but there are a couple that are really good to get involved in. I'm involved in a 15 year old world wide company that's been featured in several magazines like USA Today, Success, Fortune and inc 500 rated them the 22nd fastest growing company. Their with the BBB. My husband and I do quite well with it to. I have a few friends that have home based business's with other companies that do quite well and have really good products and services too. So you see they're not all scams. You just have to look and weed out the bad ones from the good ones is all.
If you'd like some information on home based business's that I'd recommend you take a look at, their listed in a blog that I created on my 360 page under comments. If you find one you like, contact one of my friends who wrote the comment. Theirs about 6 different ones on there. Find one where you'd have a passion in.

Don't be afraid to look, just be cautious. Start up fees are normal, but you should be able to ask what the fee is paying for, because it should be to provide you with the tools you need to get started and running. I looked for a long time as well (my whole pregnancy almost) for an opportunity that would let me be at home with my son (who is due in four days) and I came across so much crap I can't even tell you what it took to wade through it all.
I decided to take a chance and start a home business with a company that provides discount healthcare plans that are not insurance. People who sign up for the plans sign up for all kinds of discounts at every conceivable doctor's office, dentists, vision, chiropractic, prescription, and they even offer 24 hour nurse lines and a team that will help negotiate with your hospital to bring your bills down. Consumer-driven healthcare is a fast growing and relatively new field in America because people are getting sick of HMOs and other insurance types that are too expensive and too rigid. With my company, they receive the same rate for their whole household and no one is turned away for pre-existing conditions.
I got involved in this because there are a lot of people in my town who can't afford good benefits that insurance provides, but are just above that poverty level that qualifies them for help. I get a lot of satisfaction knowing that I am helping parents get their kids to the dentist and get glasses, etc.
It is easy to get started, you get free benefits for you and your family, free training, AD&D insurance right out of the gate, and a support system of people who started out looking for an opportunity just like you. I talk to my sponsor practically everyday and she answers all my questions and really has helped me get on the right track.

Don't let a couple of bad ideas make you afraid to pursue your dreams. Believe me, there are honest, legitimate businesses out there. It sounds to me like you were looking more towards a home "job" than a business opportunity.
To start a home business there will definately be start-up costs, usually not that high, and you can easily earn those back in a short period of time without scamming anyone. You also get tax breaks so you can write off your start up costs as well.
I have a business that was $39 to join and I bought about $300 worth of product to demo people. My first night showing it, I earned close to $200 in profit. Then I decided to just treat it as a catalog business because I don't like doing home parties, even though I have often earned more than $500 in just a few hours, my heart wasn't in booking parties. I started another business in health and wellness marketing a product that the baby boomers are really looking for. That one also cost me $39.95 plus one case of product so I started the entire business for just under $200. I earned that back in 3 days by just telling people what I had. I have a travel business that I put about an hour a day into. Travel sells itself. I paid $129 for that one. My latest and favorite business is in greeting cards that people choose or design on our site, then a real card goes out in the mail. I can upload pictures, captions, frames, etc, my own handwriting and signature are printed in the cards, I can add gift cards, cookies, brownies or just send a card. That one was $390 to start but because we are the only ones doing it, we make that back very quickly. Business people see the potential in how it can help them with relationship marketing and join without blinking an eye because they can send cards to their clients for less than $1 per card and it creates another stream of income for them.
So those are a few examples of what is out there as well as some of the pricing. It all boils down to talking to people you can trust, being sure that the business is a member of the BBB as well as the Direct Sellers Association, and comes with all the tools you need as well as the training and mentoring to help you meet your goals.

I understand where you are! In researching hundreds of home business opportunities prior to leaving the workforce, I found very few that did not make me very nervous. There will be people who make a great deal of money but statistics show that most do not. Often those who make money, make it off of those who sign up and fail or from "get started for $ fees". Look for programs where the profit is based on people succeeding not just on joining. I finally went with a company that was totally free. That felt the best to me.
