Alan T. and Nitebear gave you good advice. There is street smart business owners and book smart business owners. This has been a debate that statistics shows both as successfull.
I am a business owner, with a embarrasing edu level. I have grown my business to 7 digits in 2 countries. I wouldn't recommend this path as it has been painful with many knock downs that could have been avoided had I been educated.
Reading books is recommended but not for me. Many use terminology I don't understand. Many 'talk' in a direction thats not related to my business therefor a waste of time for me. Many are bias and dismiss options and want you to do it their way. My recomend reads are on the internet. Competitors home pages, manufactures pages, business groups in myspace and soforth.
I recommend, know your product and be the best. This will be your strenghth. It will be well worth a good CPA and lawyer. You may need to talk with a few. You have to be able to sit with them and talk things through. They have to share in your idea and be enthusiastic in helping you. If not , find someone else. They are a business as well and if they believe in you they know they will grow with you. This takes care of your weakness (booksmart) now you have both.
With this good lawyer and accountant and whom ever they say bring in on retainer or otherwise, together with your product expertise will now make your company very strong and attractive to lenders and investors. You are the strenght and you overcome the weekness. Nothing else left but get out there and start making some money |

That all depends on the buisness you are in and what you already know about money budgeting. |

You can open up your own buisness with no education at all. As long as you know what you're doing. |

Bill Gates, the richest man in the world, does O.K. on his limited education. Education is only part of what you might need to be successful in business. 'Business sense' is independent of all else. You have it or wish you did. |

It can certainly be done without an edu. Matter of fact I think for most businesses college and secondary education isn't necessary. Find out what you want to know and buy some books, or hit the library. |

Formal education is highly over rated......look how many people that have a college degree that don't even have a job or are working in a totally different field. Plus all school does is get you ready to go beg for a job. Business is different. While business school teaches you theory...hence why do most business school professors teach business but don't operate a business?...so they teach theory. Success in business is easy in the information age...............find someone that is successful and DO what they DID. And if you can find a system to plug into that's even better. I suggest you start with a home based business that has an educational system with it to get your feet wet. That way you can learn business principles and build capital for a traditional business later on. The sources below will back my statement up and help you make a decision.
Good Luck!! |

Most say with. If you know the business type you want to open, have experience in the type of business then you have some good knowledge.
Find good lawyer, accountant (bookkeeper), and people who can advise.
Manage your money well and follow good business practises, you may succeed.
I know of a fella that had a grade 6 education who did it. I have bought from his company. |

Jim F is right and I also suggest that sometimes a higher education will lock you into being an employee. Entrepreneurs are (and need to be} free spirits and they sometimes have trouble conforming in a formal education environment. Some of the most successful business owners have never received a degree. Education is very important however and the library is a great source to that end. Download Seth Goden's free 197 page "Idea Virus" to your desktop (PDF format) from my www.wmeu.org website. Read any other books by Seth Goden you can find. Also read "Blue Ocean Strategy" by Kim, "Lucky or Smart" by Peabody, and "The World is Flat" by Friedman. These books will get you off to a great start. |
