Is it legal to mail flyers to people. I thought of getting addresses from the whitepages and mail flyers to potiential clients. However, I wanted to make sure that it was legal before hand. If you have any information on this matter please let me know |

Yes it's legal ... provided you pay the going postage rate and don't use subversive means to collect the addresses ... you could mail something to everyone in the phone book if you pleased. HOWEVER, that would not be the most economical way to reach a broad audience. You'd be better off spending your money on targeted advertising. If you're a seamstress, ask to leave business cards or ads at the dry cleaner or a clothing store, etc. It's about trying to get knowledge of your business into the hands of people that want the information ..... sending out hundreds or thousands of letters to completely random strangers may get you some business ... but will probably cost more than it's worth.
Part of the problem is that people rarely trust someone they hear about solely from an ad.
If you do choose to do a mailing ... add an incentive to encourage people to try your service ... 15% off first service with this ad or buy 1 get 1 free with this card ... that type of thing ... something that provides value to someone will encourage them to hold on to the add or read it in more detail rather than immediately throwing it in the trash. I think it is illegal to just stick fliers in mailboxes, but it's okay to mail them. Also, check "bulk mail" rates and save yourself some money. |

i wouldnt waste my time... i throw adds away without even looking at them when they come in the mail... best way is word of mouth... tell ur friends, tell them to tell their friends and so on... as well as what buddy above said.. leaving cards in remote place err something.... i knew a guy who did mass marketing like that, spent all his money and accomplished nothing. |

It's illegal to post flyers without a license (windshields, etc), but there is no law I know of that limits mailing them. |

Here's a hint that may help you. if you mail a flyer to someone its going to cost you .39 cents. If you can fit your info on a postcards and mail the postcard it's going to cost you .25 cents your going to save .14 cents for every 100 you send your going to save $14.00. After a few 100 your going to save some money. hope this helps. |

It is 100% legal. Business had been using direct mailing to promote their business for a long long time. Before you start mailing your flyers, I suggest you contact a mailing lists broker to target your potential clients. If you just mail out your flyers randomly, it is just a waste of money. It won't get much results. Enter "mailing lists broker" on your search engine, you will find a few brokers.
You should also contact your local post office. They could show you the cheapest way to send out bulk mail. |
