I put an item up on ebay and someone keeps messaging me trying to offer me 2x the original value and to close the auction early. . . does this sound a little fishy, or am I being paranoid?

To comply is against eBay rules. If the request is twice the value, tell'm to bid that amount and put their money were their messages are. I wouldn't fall for what they're trying to do. |

Sounds fishy. I say if he really wants the item then, he should wait until the bidding time is over and he should try to bid the most. Check his eBay account if he's a good buyer based on the comments . |

It is (unfortunately) normal, and a really really bad idea. Thesepeople usually want to make a deal "off-site" (meaning off eBay), so you will have no recourse if there is a problem. I usually tell them just to bid like everybody else and good luck. Don't be tempted. It's not worth it. There are a lot of scammers on eBay as well as good people. |

If your item is worth something, then yes. And of course, as mentioned, the offers should be coming through your eBay account, not just email. I've been selling for several years and I NEVER take an offer. It means someone is trying to lowball me on my item and if I let it go to auction, I'll get what's it's worth, which is usually more than any offers. |

Sounds phishy to me! I'll bet they'll say they're buying it, then send you a money order to pay for it. The CC will be a fake, meanwhile he will have made off with your item. I hate these people.
My husband was trying to BUY something on ebay, lost, and then got an offer from someone saying that they were going to sell him the product instead, and it was a total scam!! Glad he called the company to find out if they were connected, he might have lost his cash. |

It would not be unusual - especially depending on what the item is - like a Wii (for example) or something that is very hard to find in stores. Do not bow to the person's pressure. If you are selling something that desirable, the price will go up as the bidding goes on. And why else would someone be offering you 2x the opening bid? Hold out! Good luck! |

if its a reasonable price for the item then yeah its normal. Although it hasn't happened to me in a while... If its outrageous or sounds to good to be true then it probably is. Ask yourself how are they paying... and where do they want it shipped? If they are paying by check then wait atleast 2 weeks before shipping, even if its cleared. |

run the buyer. all people on ebay must provide a address and phone number. so if its through ebay you can call them and run there info. |
