Christine M | Is it possible to earn a living selling Childrens clothes on Ebay? |
I'm a single Mum at home, & have just started selling new childrens clothes on Ebay. I'm starting up small & hoping to get bigger. But I'm starting to wonder if it is actually gonna work. I want to be able to earn a proper living but do think it is actually possible? If you have any experience of this please advise. Thanks. |

It certainly is possible. However the competition is fierce, ensure you have good suppliers so that you can compete with good prices and quality. Good luck. |

Hi, I started doing this a few years ago with my childrens used clothes and made a couple hundred a month. Now postage is going up again and ebay fees have went up so if for used clothes you don't make much. You need high demand or lots of clothes that will bring in the bucks. Name brand of course sells better and if you have a wholesaler that you are buying through then you can make some money. Paypal is eating into profits with more % now. I think the time to make real money on ebay has passed. You can make money don't get me wrong but enough for a proper living? I doubt it. If you have a wholesaler invest in an ebay store, get postage through someplace like stamps.com you can save money this way and there is now an alternative to paypal http://www.tprweb.com/public/440.cfm and since owner of ebay also owns paypal, of course they are pushing you to use paypal! |

It's possible, but not likely at this time.
ebay is feeling the effects of the recession like everyone else is and the clothing section has too many sellers, so they're cutting each other's throats.
You could try adding an Amazon.com store to get a new set of eyes on your stuff.
You could also put your stuff on Groogle, google's merchandise network. Google 'Google Base Store Connector" for a tool to let you automatically list all your goods on Froogle for free ( you have to have a store on ebay.com for this to work) |

It is possible, but you will need to get the word out somehow. You need to have knowledge about your business so that people will buy from you.
Good luck! |

Yes, it's possible as the market for good, clean children's clothes will always be there, particularly in the current financial climate. I assume that you are talking about used clothes? If not, EBay may not be a good medium unless they are heavily discounted. To make it work, you've got to buy cheap and sell with a minimum profit and on that basis, small returns may make many sales. But you will have to register as a business with EBay otherwise you will not be 'street legal' and the taxman is going to want to look at your books. But, if you keep is small with just enough income to keep you happy, taxation may not be a concern. My advice is to only buy quality, clean items with that 'just new' look and sell at tempting prices. Oh, and simply do loads of research on the site to see what sells, the prices asked and offered and take it from there. You will see current sellers that are currently successful by their volume of sales and feedback.. take a leaf out of their book I suggest. Good luck |

Depends really,if your clothes are for the mass market then i dont think it would work in terms of what prices matalan etc charge. If they are more specialist then i think so but you would have to be posting on a lot a day,ie if you post 100 items you might sell 20 etc.Cover your selling costs with your p&p but dont make that too high otherwise that would put buyers off.Its tough on there, but good luck! |
