Is it really worth it to become and Avon Representative...and which is better...Avon or Mary Kay?

My mom sold Avon for 19 years. I just started with Mary Kay last month. It's up to you. Both are well known and if you really try at it, you will succeed. You make more of a commisson from Mary Kay, 50% of the retail...and it's great if you are good at selling more limited products.

Avon has a large selection of items that are cheaper...as well as items for your home...jewelry, etc.

Mary Kay is primarily make up and skin care. With Avon you have more chances of selling something because their products have more range.

You have the potential (like with anything) to grow either Avon or Mary Kay into a profitable business. You'll get out exactly what you put into it out. If you work hard, it will pay off. If you are looking for a higher commission with a little bit more selling and product explaination, then go with Mary Kay. If you are looking for something that is more relaxed and have an opportunity to sell more to an audience based on retail prices, then Avon is your best choice. You would just have to sell more because you make less in commissions.

Go with the one you like the most as far as product because ultimately you will find greater success in selling something you have more passion for.

If this is something you truly believe in then of course it is worth it. Anything that you to do will reap rewards because you will put your heart and soul into it. If this is not something you truly enjoy it will fall flat. I thought of selling Avon for extra money but I realized selling a product was not for me. I kept looking and I finally came across the home based business I'm in now. It generates great residual income and I am not selling a product. Best of all get to really help people and that is a great feeling. If you would like to look into this check my profile for information . Good Luck!

if you know you have customers mary kay is the way to go they take real good care of you but it is a full time job alot of work and you need money to start out. like over 100 dollars but mary kay is a great company i would love to do it but i already have a full time job i mean meetings, traveling all that, they provide cars tho lol good deal but you have to invest in to mary kay.... avon is just an extra money getter. if you know some people that will buy off of you go for it any extra money is always good/!

The job description to sell either of the products is to go keep approaching people. Nothing else.

Both the products are good ones, but it depends on the people.

Left to me, it is a burden to carry urself all the time, approach people, convince them and sell the product.

But if u r really in need of money and want to take this up as a part time then its ok. But remember, u have to put in a lot of effort.

May be u can take up both, and give a minimum discount to ur customers. for ex: if u get a 15% discoutn on the products as a representative, give a 5% to ur customers. Discounts given pass around like fire. When u have more customers, u can fix the discount rate. for ex: if a customer buys for some 50$ then give a 5$ off.

all the best.

lots of ideas above, the downside is that you are selling to your family and friends. Some people will buy things they don't want or can not afford just because they know you. Later they will avoid meeting you because you are always trying to sell them something. If they have not much money, seeing you each time reminds them of that.

sorry to be negative but this does happen.

It is your choice, Do you have $$$ to invest? Mary Kay wants big $ to start up and you might make 50% but it's all about the investment and do your friends, family and the community you live in have the $ to pay higher prices.
Avon's prices on their cosmetics are usually lower than you can go to a store and buy. With Avon there is no stock to maintain, No parties and you do not have to go door to door! It is only $10 to start. If you wouldlike to learn more about Avon email me and I will get you more info about Avon.

I'm a man but based on my wife, sister in laws, my sister, woman I work with it's Avon. It may be a matter of location because around here ( Orange and Rockland counties in New York) you dont see or hear much about Mary Kay. Can you do both? Sell to Avon fans one week and then Mary Kay the next?

Worth what? I never understand that question because we are willing to spend money on a new suit put time and energy into a resume and job interview for a chance someone might hire you but we wouldn't work that hard for our own business without complaining.
Do you want to change you current circumstances? Are you looking for a little extra cash or replacing a full time career? You need to decide first which product and company you believe in and second are you willing to work at it.

Avon isn't worth it. My mom tried it and lost os much money, and its very hard, you need labels for all your books and you need to put them on, hand them out, and its hard to find buyers, you will nOT make ANY money.

If you're a hustler you can do really well with Avon or Mary Kay. It really has to do with you getting out there and selling. Avon has a much lower start up cost (maybe just $10). And sometimes you can get free start up samples. Mary Kay requires you to have a kit. Which, if I remember right, costs up around $300.

If you have strong selling skills you can . you have to work hard. At both companys

I think Avon and Mary Kay require a lot of work to sell the products. As well as there are a lot of consultants out there. You also generally carry a lot of inventory which can cost a lot of money. I'm a Purse Party consultant. Would you rather sell purses and jewelry???? No inventory to carry just a few samples!!!

I tried both along with Arbonne and the answer is no it is not worth it. You have to work your butt off and have a hugh client base to make any decent income. I did finally find a business that is worth it and has changed my financial future. go to www.workathomeunited.com/joanntal Don't waste your time trying the others, I already did that for you!

Personally....Mary Kay...Avon carries a stigma with it...I think of old lady perfume. I know that isn't correct, but a stigma doesn't have to be. Kinda like Amway with the door to door soap sales thing.
The other responder was correct in telling you to pick something you are passionate about. That is what I did. I am a stay at home mom of 5 and I work my own business. It is great! If you have kids then you might not want to do either of these just because it is so hard to get out...but then again, that might be the REASON to start with one of these!

Check out my profile if you are just interested in checking out what different people are doing. No pressure, if you want more info then let me know.
