No...it's not a scam, but like a lot of people here have stated, you do have to put time and effort into it to make it work for you!
The products are truly great and their price is outstanding! People think it's pricey because they are so use to buying skin care and make-up at drugstores, but that stuff truly is not high quality skin care. Mary Kay is high quality products at a great price and a little goes a long way, so it lasts!
There are a lot of people out there (and even websites!) that are all about "exposing" Mary Kay. Like any business, there are people that like it and people who don't. But, that does not make Mary Kay a scam. Personally, I think a lot of the people who have had "problems" with Mary Kay have been "burned by bad directors or recruiters." Certain people can tarnish the company's image for others, but Mary Kay itself has been around for 45 years and is growing stronger every year!
If you are thinking of becoming a Consultant, make sure that you love the products and believe in the company's philosophy. That will make a huge difference!
If you have any concerns about the company being a scam, then maybe selling the products yourself is not for you. But, at least find a local Consultant who is honestly willing to show you products that you want / need, and USE the products!
Your skin will thank you!

No. My wife has been doing it for years. She makes a little money and gets her personal prodcuts cheap. It also allows us to write off her cell phone, some mileage, and a few other business expenses. |

Mary Kay is not a scam as long as you work your business correctly. You pay $100 up front BUT you get over $300 in retail size product. You choose if you want to carry inventory. 50% profit on everything you sell. Option to make commission on recruits, and once you become a consultant you are eligile to earn a Pontiac G-6 or Vibe. It's definitely not a get rich quick scheme but you get paid great for the time you put into your business...plus there are many other great benefits |

Are you serious? Have you been around a while. That company is old, of course it is not a scam. People just do not relaize you actually have to do some work to make money. |

NO, why do you ask? why do you think it is a scam and could you be more speciifc as to scamming who ? how?
Information is available on the company and it is very respected in the business community as well as Mary Kay herself winning many awards such as greatest female entenpenur. I can guarentee the IRS views it as a legitimate business:) |

Like any job what you put into it you will get out of it! the CMT Awards will be putting in on all the entertainers and people this year. if it was a scam i don't think you would see stars waring it. |

No, they do have product. I'm sure you can find a rep on any corner to buy from. Personally, I found I like non-toxic make up and cleansers a lot better. Jennifer |

It is not a scam, it just doesn't work for everyone- just like Avon, Tupperware, Pampered Chef... businesses are not one size fits all. You have to have a prime market to be profitable. If you know tons of people that like and use the product, and don't have a rep/consultant that they are loyal to- you have a good market. If you don't you will have work really hard to get enough clients to make a good profit.
Mary Kay is not a good fit for me, like the product, but hard for me to get the clients for a number of reasons. I found another business that works great for me (check my profile if you want to see). Do your homework- find a business with a product/service that you really believe in and a business model that makes sense to you- If you don't love it and understand it how can you sell it?
