I would hope not. I'm 56, recently retired, and thinking about starting my own business to replace the income I lost from an early retirement. I'm tired of working for someone else and want to do something I love (instead of working to please someone else). I don't think 50 is the new 30..that's advertising garbage from the youth obsessed to make baby boomers feel better about getting older. 50 is still 50 and no one should dismiss lightly the problems still associated with aging (mainly health, and age discrimination). The plus side is experience and five decades of knowledge that no 30 year old possibly coud have. If your father is healthy, energetic, and not shy of hard work and has the money to invest in his business (knowing most businesses don't make money at the beginning), why should he not follow his dream? Just because you age, you don't stop having goals, dreams and yearnings. As I recall there was a 100 year old woman who recently got a hole-in-one while golfing...she wouldn't have done that if she had let anyone convince her she was too old. |

How chances in life do we get to live it. I started BradshawWholesale.com at 44 to help folks make money at home, flea markets and such. All should try, even if in a tiny way to do something for themselves like a small biz or even selling at a flea market. Its not only fun, meet people and such, but you make money too |

I don't think so!!!! I actually admire him for doing it. My husband ( age 63) and my self ( age ??) are thinking bout' getting into an E-Bay business,,,,so we can both work from home ,,,, I can do the typing up of the ads, and handle the freight, and he can take the photo's and work up the "Store Front"!!! If we knew how or where to start,,, we'd of done it already. So. .. I think you should get behind him, and support him, and encourage him.....and make an effort to help him every chance you get. "Good For Him"......... |

Well, 50 is sort of young, but I am sure he will learn and do quite well. I am 63 and have expanded my tax preparation business to a thousand returns last year and my work load keeps increasing. Age is only a state of mind anyway. Middle age seems to be the age you are presently at nowdays. |

It depends on his health, the type of business (if it's needed or just something that he wants to do). I don't think it's too late if he has a great idea and the knowledge to run it.
I'm 57 and thinking about starting something. I've had a couple of successes and a couple of failures but I think I have what it takes to try again. |

i don't think 50's is too late. as long as you can still keep up then why not? if you have the passion and courage then go for it, if doing business will make you happy then that's great. there's no one told us that 50+++ is too late to do a business.. |
