Of course a manager position is higher and over the admin. assistant, but that doesn't mean he/she's better than you. |

In business it isn't your rank that matters as much as who you report to.
The AA assists someone. Who do you assist? If you assist the CEO then you have a direct link to the top. The manager may not have that direct link but may out rank you. |

I wouldn't put it "better than my coworkers" becuase that comes off the wrong way...maybe you should refer to it as being higher on the chain of command or something like that.
As far as your question goes, it really depends on your company's structure and chain/chains of command that were established by the owner(s)/officer(s) of the company you work for. In general, an administrative assistant is usually parallel to managers, but on a different "chain" so they aren't higher or lower. However, if it is a larger company, and the administrative assistant is assistant to the president of the company, then they would "out rank" managers (who would be below a couple levels down VPs, Senior Directors, Director, Manager...). The way to think of this best is to realize that administrative assistants are part of the executive team. The executives are above managers because executives make the plans where as the managers have to carry out those plans. Don't mistake what I'm saying. The way I think you're parallel comes from the fact that the manager reports to your boss (if in the same chain) bi-passing you. So, in this regard, the manager is somewhat equal. It all comes back to how your company's corporate structure is laid out.
Most people have bosses with the title "manager" so they think that managers are the top. But in most companies, managers are only the top of the "blue collars" but just below the "white collars". Technically, most AAs are "white collar" so in this regard you would rank higher.....it is so vague it hurts my head!
It really doesn't matter becuase neither of you report to one another...
In short, I would say that your position does not make you any better or worse than any other worker (even your boss). But as far as chain of command rank, you probably are an equal of sorts...
I hope this helps a little? If not, try a nice, fresh slice of pizza with extra cheese--it always clears things up for me! Good Luck!! |

Usually manager is higher in ranking. Manger could supervise people, but admin doesn't. |

An administrative assistant is another phrase for secretary, some have more duties than the average secretary.
The Admin Assistant's power is directly proportionate to the person she Assists. Though in most companies, a manager is in a position of power above most admin assistants, most people within a company know that the Admin Asst. to the CEO (as an example) carries a lot more weight than the secretary for the Dock Manager.
Don't percieve this as any more than what it is, however, as many Admin Assistants have lost thier job trying to weild the power they THINK they have, but which they do not. YOUR boss is your boss who is above you on the power scale of the company. Your Boss's equals are also above you. |

surely the manager will get more salary and benefits than you.
and he will give orders to you.
he will be depend on you - without you there will be maybe a chaos.
so- from money point of view, he will be higher.
but if you will be good professional - people will ask you.
not the manager (unless he will be more professional than you) |

Manager is over the administrative assistants. |

A manager is generally considered higher but, a manager often receives his bosses instructions through an administrative assistant. An administrative assistant's role is to disperse, track and report results of instructions and programs created by his/her boss, not to enforce them. If you are being put in the position of an enforcer, you are doing your bosses job. |

It depends on whose administrative assistant you are. If you are the managers than they are higher....if you are the CEO's then you are higher since you have a direct link to the BIG boss in a sense. |

I have been an administrative assistant and the manager is higher in corporate rank. However, your job is to make the manager look intelligent.
But when it comes to decision making within the company the Manager is the last stop.
Your opinion is very important to him/her so register it and use careful consideration when doing so |

Please! The long and the short of it is MONEY. Administrative Assistants are notoriously underpaid for how directly they affect their supervisor's success. They earn a fraction of what a manager does.
Note - admins are connected to the executives they support and have far more clout on that end than the manager does. If you're an assistant who supports only a manager, you're just a little higher than a receptionist. |
