If you are looking for a legitimate business, I suggest that you create the one you are searching for. What are your interests/hobbies/desires? You could center your business around what you enjoy. What can you offer to others? If you are willing to learn a little about web design and traffic. I can share information for free about a program that I used to build mine. I chose not to join anyone else's business. It has been great to build a business from scratch. Just after a couple of months I had built a website that was getting consistent targeted traffic. If you are an accomplished typist - word processor and have recently visited your local city college or university librarian, you can apply as a "certified" graduate typist, earning between $1.50 to $2.00 per page for a master or doctoral thesis. Short answer to your question: Yes, there are.
The biggest problem is that most require fees to start, monthly fees, etc. There are some very expensive home businesses you can start that can make you some serious cash - the biggest problem is that not everybody has that kind if disposable cash lying around to invest.
I have recently come across a legitimate online business that I really like that has a HUGE income potential but is no get rich quick scheme and would be happy to give you more information if you'd want - the link is in my profile if you'd like to look it up on your own.

Yes there are legitmate home based businesses out there but most people in those are professional network marketers and do not need to spam their sites here. Also professionals follow the rules of conduct and Yahoo answers expressly state we are not to post links to home based businesses in answers.
I wrote a blog recently about advice for working from home. You can find a link in the 2nd paragraph of my profile here on answers. It is all generic information that I learned through the school of hard knocks. There is also another blog I posted, not my original work, but that of a an attorney who deals strictly in home based business law. The blog is called The MLM Legitimacy Test.

Yes there are legitimate home businesses, but you need to do your research. There are people in these yahoo answers who will tell you that every thing is a scam and that you might as well bury your head in the sand. Then there are those who will tell you that their business is the best and greatest thing and that if you pass it up, you will be missing out on the opportunity of a life time.
It is also very important that you do something that you have a passion for and are willing to work super hard, and risk failure in order to make it a success.
Home based travel business and helping people is my passion. It is the only business I have ever become a part of and it will be the only. Now, the travel business may not be your passion and that is ok. It is never good to get involved with a business just because is looks easy or it is very successful.
In my business, we develop leaders, not followers.
