Ascenscia | Just how easy is ebay? |
I want to major in business and I figured doing something as small as ebay selling would be at least a footstool to the business world. I'm a bit wary of it though. Even though everyone I know says it's easy, for some reason I'm afraid to try it for myself. I have plenty to sell. What should I do? I think it would be an excellent way to make small money on the side. Is ebay really that safe and easy? |

LEARNING how to sell on eBay is pretty easy, especially if you know how to navigate a website and read online help carefully.
Making SIGNIFICANT money on eBay, that's another story. Easy to learn, yes. But be prepared for some HARD WORK to...
1) Get your rating up. It's harder to get people to bid on items when the seller has a low rating, and some feachers such as Dutch Auctions (selling multiples of one item in a single auction) aren't available until you've got some positive feedback from successful auctions.
2) Get people to even SEE your auction. You have to put some careful thought into the wording of not only your auction item content, but the heading as well. Remember there are a HUGE number of auctions starting every minute. Why should people click on yours? In a nutshell, be prepared to become an expert in marketing and advertising to be effective.
3) Research your starting price. Be prepared to know EXACTLY how much shipping will cost, and factor in the time it takes you to write the item description and calculate shipping, then actually pack and ship everything. After all the costs, if you're not careful you may be working for less than minimum wage.
That said, yeah, it sounds hard, right? But it's still easier work than, say, flipping burgers in a fast food joint.
Also, there's a better approach... use eBay as a leapfrog to something ELSE. Done properly it can be a valuable tool for building up contacts with a regular customer base. And THAT is far more valuable than any one auction. |

eBay is pretty easy to get the hang of, and once you understand the basics of selling, buying and bidding along with all the little twists that can happen to your auctions (such as auto-extensions, and so on) it'll all go well.
The only downside, as with any transaction you make on the internet or even in real life, is that sometimes things can go wrong. People can not pay for things, decide they don't want something anymore and so on, and if you're a buyer, you can loose money to fraudsters and so on, but you learn from this and can become good at recognising these traps.
A hint is to always check on the feedback of sellers as this will tell you how trustworthy they are.
Anyway, eBay is pretty safe, incredibly easy to use and I'm sure you'll have a good time :) |

yep its pretty easy. I've sold and bought stuff on it.
not every transaction will go 100% perfectly but you learn from it and move on |

its hard as ****...yo uhave to bay a whole bunch of fees, like insertion fees, final value fees, credit card fees, and it takes time too-and you have to build trust-its's also really hard to compete with the big sellers too |

depends what youre sell as to how easy it is to sell there, certain things despite populat belife just dont sell well on ebay
as for safe... it can be if you protect yourself, you need to read all the fine print, see what you need to do to qualify for seller protection, see what buyers have to do, read the help forums for common errors that sellers make
if you're not carefull selling on ebay can be a big headache, but as long as you protect yourself you should be fine |

I sell on ebay I have 764 feedback, all pos. Don't sell used mak-up on ebay. Used perfumes are fine as they can't be contaminated. Clothes do well. I would suggest opening a paypal accoutn to take payments (a premier account) they will send you a debit card that you can pull money that you make off ebay and use just like any other debit card. YOu can email me ivyhouse1972@yahoo.com and I would be happy to explain further! |

Yes ebay is very safe just as though you are selling at a yard sale or you own auction however there are always people who will attempt to con you out of something. Usually they will attempt to pay by Odd means or ask you to send / pickup to an international point.
Check ebay's Reporting Spoof (Fake) Emails site (link below) for more hints on fakse and spoofs. Read their help section on how to post - requirments - costs etc..
I have been doing ebay for several years and can ear a few hundred dollars a week just by posting as a hobby. At first I would not do it but I became involved through a friend that wanted to try it also.
Ask your friends to show you their tricks and just do it yourself you'll enjoy it if for no other reason get rid of some of the junk.
Hope this helps you. |
