"If a company requires initial payment from you in order to work for them, they are not legitimate."
There are a few legitimate data entry companies but are not hiring and have large waiting lists (1-2yrs). The majority of data entry jobs you seen online are scams. A real company will want you to have skills inc fast typing, may want you to know MS Excel, and will usually ask that you have high speed internet. Once in a long while you may found one online on a job website but thats rare.
If you do an advanced search on yahoo, you will find previous answers, sometimes the info on these is good as the info they gave is likely to have been verified if the answer was voted as 'Best'.

The work from home jobs that aren't scams actually require work on your part - and if you're in need of money soon then you're likely to be sorely disappointed in any of those as well. Most of the legit opportunities out there take time to build - so if someone makes an outrageous claim of income it probably isn't true ( and those that are true sure didn't make that kind of money when they first began ).
http://my-data-entry.blogspot.com/
Time & effort required - but do your own research on what is best for you, don't take the advice of myself and others as gospel from this type of public website.
http://www.working-from-home-jobs.com/
I have other ideas that may help - one of them is an online opportunity but another is one that will require a little effort to market yourself - try some data entry for local businesses, many of them don't have the time to do it in-house and will gladly pay someone else to do it. Professionals are a good place to start, lawyers, doctors, chiropractors, etc - they need their "in-house" folks doing other things rather than busy work.

Momof4-5 including my husband
 |
I'm a mother of 4. My husband and I both work from home. We don't work for someone else, we have our own home based business in the telecommunications industry. My mother works from home, she has her own child daycare center. So there are a lot of opportunities out there where you can work from home. Either by working for someone else, or working for yourself. Which way did you want to go?
You don't want to do survey's, I understand. The income level isn't a sufficient amount of income. I wouldn't go into assembly or stuffing evelopes, the pay is the same as survey's. Actually less. I know a couple people who used to have an ordinary job where they worked from their home. If you meet the companies qualifications (not sure exactly what they are, but curtain typing speeds, internet connection speed and things like that) you can apply for a position if they have one availabele. A company listing of good home based jobs that I know people have worked for in the past is on this article:

Hi There,
Good Post! I love everything about business, escpecially the marketing and advertising parts. These things make or break a business. I've found many ways to advertise my business that might help you. If you have a website, try SEO and PPC (pay per click from Google Adwords).
If you advertise your business offline, try handing out flyers, printing coupons, and yellowpage advertising).
The best method I've found yet is to buy business cards and hand them out everwhere. I buy them from a place online that gives the cards for free and only charges for shipping and handling. I hand these out to everyone I meet, and I leave them on cars where ever I go (I also got a free business card holder that looks really impressive)!

Take care and good luck with your business! |

There is a lot of competition for work from home jobs. I got started using online freelance sites, and ultimately built a business with clients that I found through them.
http://www.scriptlance.com/ (Free - Best in my opinion)
http://work-at-home-tips.blogspot.com/ (Excellent info)
http://www.gofreelance.com/ (Free - Good site)
http://www.elance.com/ (Biggest, but kind of expensive)
http://american-data-entry.blogspot.com/ (Excellent info)
The first link is mainly programming, but there are other jobs there as well.
You may have more luck with the third website. |

i have never done this but i had a girlfriend once who was doing the envelope thing and heres the catch.....say you stuff and send out 1000 envelopes.....this is not the scale for which you are paid....what you are paid for is the number of positive responses from the mailings that the company receives from your mailing list....think about it....what is the first thing most people do when they go to the post office and get their mail?...they immediately weed out junk mail and in the trash it goes....i know i do.....if my name is not on it and it goes to general delivery, postal patron, or boxholder then it goes into the trash before i even walk out the door.....these envelopes are a generalized delivery and as such qualify as junk mail because they are unsolicited so of the 1000 that you mail 75% will get file 13ed....of the remaining 25% only about 3-5% will actually respond and show interest in the solicitation...watch out for jobs like this....you pay a fee for the supplies up front and more often than not you will not recover that money even in the first mailing you do so you start out in the hole |

www.aplineaccess.com is a telecommuting job.
When a person calls customer service for businesses XYandZ it goes to a call center - which then directs the call to you.
They provide training and regular schedules. It's based in Denver but you'll do everything including your hiring interview over the phone. |

You can find legitimate work at home jobs at Virtual Job Connection. A poster here mentioned Alpine Access which is one of the companies also listed on this website (I don't live in a state that this company hires in). I work for a company called Westathome and have been working from home for 5 years (this company is also listed on the website). |

Hello Gret37!
First I work as a proofreader and website assistant, but I have done virtual call center jobs, admin assist, and recruting. Finding good jobs and ones you qualify for can be difficult but you must stay focused and keep researching. One word of warning though, I would stay away from anything advertising data entry jobs or envelope stuffing as generally they are scams. One good resource for legitimate companies is http://www.workathomedesk.com which is a free site. If you go to the work at home directory area they have companies listed by type of work. I hope this helps you in your search. Good luck and remember to never pay to get a job! |
