I am a manager at a well known fast food restaurant. I have been at this store for a week. One of the issues that management is enforcing is that the crew take their breaks in the break room. It is making alot of people mad. So here is what I am looking for. Being in charge of setting the breakroom up, I am looking for ideas of inexpensive ways to help entice the crew, of which alot of trhem are kids, to want to be in there. I am working on getting the staff computer up and going. Yet I want more than just a computer to help them relax and to enjoy their breaks. Maybe something that is stress relieving. Any ideas would be helpful |

A break room in a fast food joint? what a novel idea. What happened to " if you got time to lean, you got time to clean" ?
How long are these breaks that you need to be entertained? Young people? They want to go to their cars so they can make out or, smoke or, text the manager and tell them the system sucks cause they want longer breaks.
Give them a clean room with comfortable chairs. Make use of a radio. Not a TV. You can walk away from a radio in the middle of a song but, no one wants to miss the Simpson's! |

Get a tv, just make sure there's a clock in there as well or else they will go over their break time. If you get anything too distracting they probably will go over their break time. Ikea is inexpensive and has some fun ideas, you can go to their website www.ikea.com |

Most break rooms are boring drab depressing closets! Brighten it up, use comfy furniture, have a table that is large and stable enough to eat and to do homework at, maybe some movie posters, and a TV. That's all you really need. Just make it someplace they wouldn't mind being in. Ask them what they would like to see in there! |

No PC in the breakroom! if your employees are primarily teens, you'll find them in there when they're not on break. Magazines, stuff to read, posters. I know teens aren't really interested in anything that can't be plugged in, but for 15 mins. they can read the latest issue of MAD magazine. |

What most people don't know is that water helps people relax. There are murals of beaches and exotic islands and such that you can put on your wall. Blue is a relaxing color. This could help them relax all together. Jennifer |

get a tv in there with a good tv on dvd collection going since the shows are only 20 minutes each without commercials. Get a computer in there with internet connection www.tigerdirect.com has real good rates on refurbished computers like an e-machine. Get a few magazine subscriptions and keep them updated. Get an ice tea maker and have it ready for them all day long so they can take a break with a nice cold drink in that hot restaurant. |

The computer is an idea, but if you have more than one person on a break, one person might monopolize it. I think having keeping it neat and clean is most important.
Comfortable seating, refrigerator for personal drinks/food, and a table for periodicals. Subscribe to the newspaper and have it in there for staff to look at. You'd have something new each day for staff. |

How about an inexpensive mural on the wall? You can get something, that's like wallpaper, with an outdoor scene on it. Would make the room probably seem more inviting and soothing. |
