Me | MY partner does not really support my desire to have my own business? |
I have been to university and now have a professional job that pays very well. Iv just turned 26, but have always wanted to make it on my own. My dad and brother have their own business and are both sucessfull. I just cant see myself sitting at the same desk in 20 years. I like my job but want more freedom and sucess.
My partner really gave me a hard time about it when I first started it saying im throwing all my time at university away etc and thinks its ridiculous im spending so much of my spare time, getting up early every week. What can I say, im deicated. Im even selling my nice car and downgrading because I want this so much
I feel like I have this hurdel, so much so that when we have arguments it been brouht up that its a supid thing im doing. She now says she accepts what I want to do but I know deep down she does not approve.
Would be interested to hear your views and advice. Many thanks. |

Well maybe SHE (gheese people, read the dang question fully) just doesn't fully understand the idea fully and you may want to take the extra time to get her confidence up and see if that changes her view to being more supportive.
It may be that she sees something that you may not as well. Ask her what her concerns are and don't be quick to dismiss them as many self starters are. You are together for love and support, and sometimes both require being able to swallow a jagged little pill for awhile.
If she feels that your business idea is weak somewhere, consider getting some help. SIA has some good business articles that really are helpful when it comes to growing and marketing a business. Go to www.siaservices.net and go to the section with the articles.
Any way, I would consider making her a more active role in your business for the help and support you need. Be grateful that you have someone else to bounce things off of, even if it isn't an ideal situation.
It sounds like making her an advocate would be a great victory for you alone, and may be the additional boost you need to make your business successful.
Good luck, and hope this helps. |

Have you asked her why she is really is not supporting you, is there more to it than she is saying?
Many people have heard that setting up on your own is risky business, however there are loads of people who have done so and done extremely well for themselves.
Would you consider setting up the business part time whilst still continuing to work full / part time, if he sees how well you are doing he may be more supportive.
I worked in the legal profession for many years before setting up my own business, many professionals / graduates go on to do the same.
Remember you need the support of your partner, perhaps it is worth taking a step back and looking at it from various angles. Coaching may assist.
Remember to plan in advance and research the market carefully to eliminate as many risks as possible.
good luck

She says that she accepts it, what more do you want?
You can't expect your partner to agree with everything you do, you should expect disagreements |

Whilst it is an irrelevance, you do not say which gender you belong to. Do you have a business in mind? Is it one that you went to Uni to get qualifications for.?
Remember these words I AM THE I AM THAT I AM.
Do your own thing.
