Mary Kay Or Avon?Only those who've used both product lines or sold them should participate pls.?
Which is a better line of product to start a home based business with? Compare both as per price, quality, company compensations and promotions and most of all, profit. Which line is more likely to get you more customers who will stay because they like the product and not just the price. Your sincere and honest answers are greatly welcome and appreciated. (online survey for yahoo answers!)

If you can afford the start up, go with Mary Kay. The sales are bigger, the customers are more loyal and dependent on reorders, and the products are exceptional. They have great promotions, direct mail to your clients, and websites. Most people who start with Mary Kay skin care products stay with them most of their lives.

Avon is also a great company, but I don't know alot of women who make full time careers out of it. The price points are smaller, the orders are smaller, and the amount of travel can add up with high gas prices. However, if you can get into an area with stores, offices, or big groups of people in one location, it can be a very good paying job. I sold Avon on a college campus and did great. When I moved back to a small town, couldn't really make enough and got a regular job.

The main thing is that YOU use and believe in the product. Which appeals to you more? Do you like the science of skincare and makeup application more like Mary Kay, or do you really like the variety of products and price points of Avon? Which would most of the people you know be more likely to buy?

I am currently selling Mary Kay. The start up fee was $99 and I made that back in my first week. Mary Kay offers a lot of tools that help you promote your business. You can do shows if you want to, but it isn't completely necessary. When I do a show with Mary Kay, I know my customers will buy because the products sell themselves. It's not a pyramid. Of course you will make money off of those who sign up under you, HOWEVER, your biggest profit will come from what you personally sell. I am really impressed with the benefits of selling Mary Kay. I could go on and on.

I have also used Avon in the past but I really like Mary Kay because of the customized look you can get. You don't have to worry about picking your colors and praying they will look right on you. Mary Kay has tools that will create a personalized look for you based on your own facial features.

I will say that Mary Kay is a more expensive make up, BUT it lasts a lot longer than anything else I have used.

Good luck!

I have used both products and sold Avon in the past. Mary Kay products cost more than I am willing to pay, but your market may be different. It is important to consider your market area.

Avon offers a lot more variety, which helps when people don't need makeup or skincare. I was able to by gifts for family and friends. Making deliveries was time consuming. I now buy Avon from my niece.

I rep for Mineral Girlz now.

Good luck with your decision. There are so many great companies to choose from.

I've sold Avon and new people selling Mary Kay. They come and go like water in a stream. Problems with both... Avon: I always have problems with the returns supposidely not getting them, having to purchase new books every two weeks gets expensive, having to purchase $7.50 every 2 weeks for erep. for my online website and online ordering ease, $2.50 order processing fees, $0.75 per customer fees.... FEES, FEES, FEES! It's ridiculous. Mary Kay is way too pricey and EXTEREMLY costly to get into. Customer service is lacking. Good luck keeping your sales up with the prices. And I didn't like the Mary Kay quality for the price.

I'm quitting Avon and choosing Artistry for the quality, price compared to quality, customer service and incentatives (trips and cash incentives).
If your interested give me a shout or just look at the site.

quality wise I would say MK. Avon a little cheaper but still good. Both are pseudo pyramid systems where only the up=line really make the money.

I have used both products and I have sold Avon. Mary Kay has better foundation than Avon. I cannot find a foundation that I like from Avon. But, Avon has the best skincare I have ever tried! Their clinical line is promoted by women's magazines as the best in it's category. Also, Avon has the best mascara I have ever used. I also use Avon lipstick, lip gloss, eyeliner, eyeshadow, brow pencil, blush and cleansers/moisturizers. As far as sales, the makeup does sell well and there are hundreds of products that customers can add on to their order if they only intended on ordering lipgloss (I almost always have orders for more than one item)!

One answer mentioned Artistry. I have used it and sold it. I never sold anything! And the product line is very comparable to Mary Kay, but more expensive. Beware, it is part of Amway which is now called Quixtar and they are mainly focused on recruiting and selling their books, cds and function tickets as a "side" business for the higher ups. I would direct you to mlmsurvivor yahoo group if you want more info about deceitful mlm's like Quixtar.

Mary Kay is expensive to start up and Avon does require delivering product, unless you sell to co-workers or people who meet up with you (highly recommended to do it this way). You can make up to 50% commission with Avon.

I am selling Down the Trodden Path now. Startup is free and you get your own website. Worth a try and it is free! Just sign up and forward the info to your family and friends for them to order soy candles, baskets and bath and body products online!

I like Avon but hey candles are a 3 billion dollar industry. We are certified by the Better Business Bureau. They sell very well online and off. Candles are a very simple product. If you are interested, please check out my source below and watch the

Being totally honest. The girl who signed me up for Avon was a mary kay rep for a couple of years, she had alot of problems getting customers to comeback to repurchase more products because of the cost. Avon seems to have a loyal customer following and the cost is never an issue with them because it isn't expensive and they know that it will eventually go on sale.

Another reason why Avon, is the price to join Avon is only $10 and mary kay was $200 (don't know if that is still the case) but that difference is huge.

A new thing that Mary Kay doesn't have is the ability to sign up new people online. With Avon you could go to our websites and now have people sign up from all across the country and you also get your own website so your customers can make purchases online 24/7.

The girl who signed me up does do it full time and she earns enough $ to do it full time. Me personally after selling for 2 years have been able to build a business which brings home to me and my family an extra $250-300 every 2 weeks.
