Neil | Massive fraud Problems on e-bay? |
Has anyone else experienced recent glut of fraudsters on e-bay.
Have listed a phone four times and each time the "winner" is out of the country and wants the phone posted to Nigeria. I then receive false paypal and e-bay mail telling me payment has been received

I haven't used e-bay in quite some time. But isn't there a way you can contact Ebay and let them know what's going on? False paypal AND Ebay mail? That's really fishy.
I would advise this: when placing items for sale, the terms of sale should include shipping advice which states that you will only ship to your own country. If you're in the U.S., it is not uncommon to see items for sale where seller will ship inside USA only.
You are right to be suspicious of anything that comes out of Nigeria. |

I am seriously starting to wonder if Ebay headquarters are actually located in Nigeria!!
Just be really strict with your rules..No UK, no new users and have discernment in all your dealings. |

I live in the U.S. and it's gotten to the point where I only sell in the U.S. and ship everything delivery confirmation. Have not seen a lot of fraud personally, but I have noticed that items are not selling as fast as they used to and they are selling for less. |

It's never been any different ... many sellers refuse to accept not only those with eg. less than 10 feedback but also non-UK (or non-European) bidders .. and you have a HUGE risk that when fake Credit cards / hijacked PayPal accounts are used to make payments to YOU, eBay / PayPal could 'freeze' YOUR account !!!
One common scam is to use a 'real' (hijacked or actually setup for the purpose) account and place multiple auctions - your criminal friends then bid the prices up to (say) £2000 for a PC .. as the Auctions are 'won', they then 'pay' into your account using stolen PayPal accounts .. you then withdraw the money from the PayPal account and leg it ... eventually all the payments are reversed ... PayPal 'freezes' the accounts involved, but it's often much too late ..)
The scam of running the bidding up to £20,000 for phone is even more nasty - they tell you they are trying to evade currency laws (or some such nonsense) and that you can have 10% for processing the £20k payment - if your agree they send (typically) a Cheque drawn on a legitimate (usually Nigerian) Bank.
You send the cheque off and your Bank account is credited with £20k after 3 days. Afater a week or so, all seems OK so you pay them their £18k and 'keep' the rest .. a couple of months later their mates in the Nigerian Bank who initally 'confirmed' the Cheque was OK now reject the Cheque as stolen / forged or whatever - your Bank reverses the credit and you end up with £18k loss ...
NB. NEVER click on 'links' in ANY email no matter what the 'address' says ...it is REALLY EASY to 'fake up' an email "From : PayPal, Subject: Confirmation of payment" and clicking on the link takes you to a faked up 'PalPal' log-in screen ... and so your account is hijacked .. |

That is very common with ebay especially with phones. Verify the payment with ebay and then report them to spoof@ebay.com, and if paypal just check your account to make sure payment was made. how I stopped this problem I said in my advertisement they I will not ship to any place other then the credit card billing address. Always verify because this is a huge problem with phones if it says ship to Nigeria 9 times out of 10 it's fraudulent. I have no idea how or if ebay can provent this problem but before I learn to only ship to credit card billing address I would get 100 orders a day with this to the point I have to change my email address. I hope this helps. |

Ebay Have to build in some protection for this! They should also have to pay your listing fees back for fraudulant bidding
