Moved to a new state, and I'm not understanding....
I moved to AZ from NC about 18 months ago. I quickly got a job as a caregiver with a local company. In my opinion, with the revolving door and the constant finger pointing by my managers alone, it is not the best company to work for. Last week I went into HR to ask for a copy of the employee handbook. One was not given to us during training, the instructor simply skimmed over brief topics and said it was pretty standard. Having many bills to pay at the time, I did not think much of it. The woman in HR last week told me that she would not give me a copy of the handbook, even if I paid for each page, but she would be happy to answer any questions I had. Is this legal? I'm still employed by the company and simply wish to read about some of their policies. I've been with the company for almost 18 full months now, and I have not relieved a raise from day one. Upon hire I was told that I would receive holiday and vacation pay after 12 months. This past March I wanted to go and see my mother who was having a bad time kick the flu. I was told by my supervisor that the policy had changed, and it would be 18 months before I received vacation and holiday pay, so I had to find people willing to take my shift, that would not produce overtime at the same time. It was a nightmare! I know I need a better job, badly! The other issue I'm encountering now along with trying to get a copy of the handbook, is trying to get my original caregiver certificate. The lady in the HR department, who has already refused to give me copies of my employee files and the handbook, has told me because the company paid the state fee for my caregiver certificate that I did acquire while working for this company, I would not relieve the certificate or even a copy of it. I'm hopelessly lost and so confused here in AZ! Please please someone if you can help me!
