My 13 year old daughter begged and begged for a my space profile, I said no way after looking on some of the profiles on there, and I just about died at the crap I seen. No wonder there is rape, child molesting, murder, etc. in this world. I just cant beleive how crude and horrible people are nowdays. What is this world coming to. It is so sad to see the evil we have opened a doorway to. People have no values anymore, toward children, marriage, love, making love etc. You can drive through a drive up window in vegas and get married, and its just as easy to get divorced. Anyways I think they should close that my space website down, I am always hearing stuff on the news about it, they said the other day that they have profile matches to at least 700,000 known and registered sex offenders on my space, and there is no way I am going to let any of my children on there. |

You have to do what you think is right.
But I can tell you from experience, where there is a will, there is a way. So if your daughter really wants to be on myspace, she will, you just won't be able to see what she's doing because she won't be doing it at home.
When my son was in his teens, I did not "forbid" him access to music, the internet or books. I remember all to well that as a child, I could get my hands on, and do, anything I wanted to because even if my parents forbade it, I had a friend whose parents did not. With my son, I allowed him free rein, with conditions. The conditions were that I could always, and at anytime, see what he was doing and gain access to anything he had access to. This caused him to think twice.
In hindsight, it must of worked. He is a hard-working, respectful young man and makes me proud nearly everyday.
And obviously, you've never been divorced if you say that is "just as easy", NOTHING about divorce is easy. |

I think myspace is great. I'm on there every day. You can make it so her profile is private and the only people that can see it are people she excepts as friends. You can also see every message she sends and receives. You should let her have one and if she abuses it take it away!! I graduated and it's a great way for me to stay in touch with friends! |

You have to look out for your kids as a parent and do what you feel will best protect them. It's your right and your duty. I think that at the very least, a kid needs heavy supervision if they have a myspace account. Parent should be looking over their kids shoulders on there. Good for you.. |

My mom tells me not to get on it either. But i still get on. Watch out for that. Im not saying invade her privacy but check her history if you wanna make sure she doesnt get on.
As for not allowing her well i dont know. I no not to tell people my personal info. I dont even have my real pic on my myspace just these blurry 8 bit ones (lol i mixed seriousness with a funny) but it all comes down to how responsible you think your children are. |

Kids don't need to use any website where they divulge personal information. It's fun and all (I guess, not my thing), but kids don't need to have their names and pictures out on the internet. No one does. Kids just don't understand the risks. I wouldn't let my kids touch it with a ten foot pole. They can interact with their friends on the phone or in person. |

i am 17 years old. I have 2 little sisters one is 14 and the other is 12, turning 13 friday. they both have myspaces, and it makes me sick! They talk to this older men that are like 18. I dont even talk to 18 year old guys and im 17! I hate the fact that they have it. it scares me. you never know what information your daught might give out. I commend you for not letting her have one. You are making a good decision, and no matter what she says it is a good decision. If i could i would take my sisters off of that website in a flash, but our mother is stupid and wont see the dangers, or she does see them and doesn't care. Myspace is a horrible place. Its not hard to believe Rupert Murdock owns it. |

I am pretty liberal, and I would not allow a child to use it either. Lots of people share your values. I would guess you to be Christian. There are lots of you out there. Lots of adults use that site for making friends and nothing like what you quote here. Please keep that in mind too. :) |

Ok, its terrible that 700,000 sex offenders are on myspace but, it shouldn't be shut down. Parents should be responsible and not let their children on Myspace. I don't blame you for not letting your child on there. My daughter is 8 but, I don't think if she was 13 I would let her on there either! |

You should let her make one and moderate it.
You can set her profile to "private" so only people who she adds to her friends list can see her profile.
Myspace can be a good way to interact with friends and family. Over the years of working at my job, there have been co workers that i have become friendly with, and want to keep in touch with them when they quit/get fired, but we are not close enough to call eachother and talk on the phone. But we are close enough to be friends on myspace. It is a good way to keep in contact with your friends.
If you allow your daughter to make a myspace, set it to private, and agree with her that sometimes you will log onto it to check her friends, to make sure that she knows them all, and messages to make sure that she isint talking about sex, you can make sure that she does not get into any troble.
And, i herd on the TV today that myspace and some other company are now working together to ban all sex offenders from myspace. They have their names, descriptions and stuff like that, so anyone who has a myspace with a picture matching a description that they have will have their myspace account deleted. |
