My husband owns his own business should I work for him or should I not because of us being together all day .?

Nope, couples should not work together for:

1) sanity of your marriage...too much in common
2) prevent possible issues from arising in the business, i.e. nepotism, unfair advantages etcc..

Don't work for him, be his business partner. My wife and I have worked at our business for years with absolutely no problem. We have each delegated our expertise to different sectors of the business, therefore I do my work and she does her work. We are good business partners but at home we rarely talk business.

My grandfather always said, "Never buy, sell, or rent anything from a relative." I suspect that unless you and your husband are a well-matched pair who adore being in each other's presence a lot, Grandpa's advice would also apply to working with a relative.

Marriages are tough enough to maintain without the added stress of working together at a business. Someone is apt to want to be the boss, and the other person could easily come to resent their "other half" trying to be in control. And any tension you already have in your marriage is going to escalate by the pressures of running a business.

Personally, I wouldn't risk it. I love my husband dearly, but I know that it wouldn't be a good idea to work with him. You'll have to make your own decision based on the circumstances of your marriage.

If you guys get along (you should) I don't see why not. Make sure (for tax reasons) you are put on payroll.

that depends on the type of relationship u already share. r u close, like best friends? do u trust him? do u argue? what happens when u argue? do u feel a sense of relief when he's not around? is his business something u r even interested in? how do u handle stress as individuals? as a couple? has he asked u 2 help or r u just assuming he'd want u there cuz u r his wife? sometimes it can be a good thing working w/your spouse.if overall u have a good life together, then i say go for it, if u r interested in the business.take in to consideration, though, that his work ethic may not be the same as yours.if u choose to, u will need to lay boundaries.will u be "just an employee" or will he treat u as an equal?find out where u will stand b4 u decide.couples need separate interests, too.

if you get on then it should be ok.

depends on if he has the same work ethics as you do, if not you will most likely argue and cause your marriage stress

if your husband can provide the type of job that you want ,why not work for him.

Can you stand to be around each other? i recommend working for him or at least someone else just to get some social security paid in and to possibly set up a retirement plan that can be deductible to the business.

I worked with my wife for 8 yrs.We had good days and bad days, mostly good and it`s also good to know you have at least one person on the job you can really trust and count on.The most important thing to remember" IT`S ONLY BUSINESS and NOT PERSONEL",otherwise you wont get along when he tells or orders you to do something.

i figure long as you are there to do a job it should be okay just stay out of each others way.

Is he going to be your boss?

Only YOU can answer that. You can try it and see how it goes. Not all marriage partners make good business partners. Do you see eye to eye on business matters??? You don't have anything to lose or you wouldn't be asking the question.

retiredslashescaped1
Yes, it totally depends upon how you get along. If you tend to be a bit gripey with each other, do not work for/with him.

If he knows the business better than you, and you tend to find it hard to take instructions or criticisms from him, because he is your husband, then don't work for him.

Because you asked the question, I am confident you don't get along very well, thus you should not work with him. Not only would it be unpleasant for you both, but you could rapidly destroy that business.

Think about it.

Here's speaking from experience. My husband and I run our own business today. The boundaries are definitely blurred, he cannot separate his life from his work, and he constantly takes control, gives the orders, critises heavily and most of the time has me in tears because he can get away with it. If he hired someone to do my job, he would be paying her $80k plus super, and he would have to abide by workplace laws, such as EEO and anti-discrimination. Its put a major strain on our marriage. Don't work for your husband.
