majority of the population love coffee and coffee related drinks, plus add a little baked goods on the menu your good to go.Plus if you find the right location and it's something you are going to put your heart in to it . In most cases it's a good investment as long as you can get the right location and have good product. just tell them how amazing it would be , and get some satistics in the to back you up. |

Things like, it is in a busy populated area and the business would thrive. Near a college campus and you could have wireless internet. Near many business which would make morning commute time busy. That kind of stuff. |

Well i run my own business, i import/tune and sell sports cars but the reason i did it was mainly i enjoy it lol, but look at the shops that are there the now and they make a killing and everyones in such a rush no a days business will be good :) so i`ll say:
You cn be your own boss
make great money
greater satisfaction
and mainly its what you want to do so go fly a kite pmsl

* coffee shops do not have to offer much variety in food, so it's easier to keep that under control
* the guidelines for setting up a food establishment are laid out clearly step by step so you cna follow thru with what needs to be taken care of
* typically staff there don't make a lot of money, but they are tight crews

I would take a map and mark all the coffee shops in that area and even beyond that. then I'd pick a good spot and go to the nearest coffee shops to see how their business is doing. If they'd be full, I'd drag my friend along to prove him that a business in this area would be successful, and then show him the place on the map I marked where no coffee shops are nearby, relatively.
This would also be a great way for yourself to check if it's a good idea. If you can't find a good spot where there aren't any coffee shops around or if the coffee shops around aren't filled up with customers, then it'd be a good policy to give up the coffee shop idea. |

depending upon where you are....it could be VERY profitable..any you could have a nice place to sit and relax....look at Starbucks, list everything you like about it and find a way to make it better, explain those thoughts to your partners |

If this is for real and not just studies, i am afraid some of these answers may be incorrect:
Look at the population data for an area, are they mostly middle class working citizens, or elderly people. Is there lots of young people? Most people who drink coffee are working citizens. Also give out questionnaires to people asking whether they would buy from this particular coffee shop. Show sales in the coffee market to this particular partner, there might be a general increase.

With so many chains out there ie starbucks your gonna need a unique selling point. wants you figure that out (if you haven't already) build a Business plan including costs and expected returns.
bear in mind new businesses rarely make a profit from the off so your gonna need some money to live off of.
