Opening a bakery?
When I grow up I wanna open a bakery, do you think that this is a good idea?

How do I achieve this goal?

All, my friends think that this is a horrible thing to do, that I won't earn a lot of money and that I'll end up broke. My parents says that I should be more serious, and stop day dreaming about opening a bakery and that I should be a doctor or something like that.

Is this a good idea?

go to college and get a business degree. this will help you with the money, paperwork, taxes...stuff of your business.
take home economics in highschool. try and get a job in a bakery so you can get an idea of what you will have to do to run one. if you can, ask the owner if you can be an apprentice.

there is nothing wrong with being a baker or running your own bakery. what could be wrong having a job that you love.

it is a possibility but will take a lot of work, you might want to consider going to some kind of culinary school when you graduate highschool and work in a bakery for a while to make sure it is something you do want to do. Always have some kind of back up plan...

Opening a bakery? Hope you like to GET UP EARLY...I mean early, like 4 a.m. Those donuts don't make themselves, you know.

do what you want to do and who knows you may be the next Sara Lee, don't let people get you down even your parents haven't the right to put down your ideas. you are young and will have many ideas before you are grown but you may very well be a baker and that is a good idea because people will always want to eat baked goods. so deep up the good ideas, just stay in school.

It's your idea, so its absolutely the best. Don't let anyone detract from your spirit. I'm glad you asked this and I hope you don't forget. Sounds fabulous to me.

Ask around at local bakeries how they got started. I'd bet they'd love to talk to you. And perhaps volunteer or try and work at one. And of course the internet is a good tool for learning.

A bakery would be a great idea. I have read a lot of the ideas people have answered to your question. I will add my own from my perspective.

I worked in a bakery for a long time. Get the background as a pastery chef. This could take the form of an apprenticeship, or some other hands on experience...like a community college.

You need to understand what it takes to open up a bakery and put bakery products on the shelf.

I am also a business major: Entrepreneurship. It would be good to get a business background so that you learn how to manage your business.

What motivates, how to order products, and how to keep books. You learn lessons in college. At least an AA degree towards business.

Hope this helps. Find your niche, and go for it!

Well, it's good to dream. A good Idea, I don't know. It's a lot of hard work and I don't know how successful a stand-alone bakery would be unless it was in a resort area or something like that. You have to be up real early (2, 3, 4 a.m.) to get your breads ready to bake by the time people want them. I don't know how readily you'd be able to hire help because of the hours and work. You could go to culinary school and specialize in baking and bake in a big hotel or the White House or some other big institution. Leave your options open. Get a good well rounded education. See about working in a bakery in the summer. Best wishes.

If you are really really good, there is an enormous amount of money to be made in bakery especially for catoring like wedding cakes. People pay top dollar for exceptional chefs who can cator and/or wedding cakes anywhere from $50.00 up to 5 or $600.00 per cake

I don't know how old you are but I am presuming you are still at school so I will answer appropriately.
It' great that you are thinking about things like that and I am sure you will come up with even better ideas as you get older.
As far as doing what you want to do in life...I truly believe that you have got to do what you want to do. If you succeed ...great ...and if you fail you may be disappointed but you are doomed if you don't try.
Your parents mean well but the decision should be yours.
If you do what your parents want you may live the rest of your life regretting the fact that you didn't follow your own dream.
I can tell you that because I was coerced into a job I didn't want and if I had followed my ideas I could have had a totally different lifestyle today and I regret listening to my parents on my career.
