Your not going to be able to own your own business without investing time and money into it. Home Daycare centers are good income making businesses. They are a lot of work though. I can understand why your husband said now.
The income opportunity is incredible in home based business. You just need to find one that you'd enjoy getting involved in and one that has a great compensation plan. Most home based business cost under $500. Some cost more depending on what it is you want to do.
I don't know what you like to do, so I can only tell you what my husband and I started over six years ago and point you out to some others to take a look at. Ours well supports our family of six. We have four children ages 10, 6, 3 and 1. It is also becoming a major funding source for non-profit organizations.
We got involved in the telecommunications industry with a world wide company that's over 15 years old. We've been featured in several magazines Inc 500 rated us the 22nd fastest growing company. They offer services that people use every day and pay for anyway, but now they can have a lower cost. Services such as local and long distance phones, Internet, digital phones, video phones (you can see the person your taking to live)VOIP, Satellite TV, and all the major cellular phone companies like Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, Alltell, Nextell etc. have partnered up with them too.
How many people do you know, or know of, that uses one or more of these services? How would you feel if you could save people money on services that they're already using? Every time they pay their bills each month, you make a percentage off these bills every single month. Huge income opportunity. It's incredible how much money is involved in this industry.
I also created a blog on my 360 page on home based business's. There's over half a dozen different ones to take a look at. Your more then welcome to browse through them for some ideas.
I hope this gives you a few other ideas to look into.

Got news for you. You have no idea what you're getting into.
Wife has run her own business for three years now. Fortunately I can help her or she'd have never made it. "Being your own boss" is 10x the job you think it is. You have to be your own accountant, purchaser, deliver person, gopher, salesperson and advertiser. You're in a different taxing structure, one that is far more expensive than even DINKs (Double income no kids.) Building codes, business fees, other requirements in connection with running a business are now YOUR problem. Benefits? Insurance? Paid vacation? Workman's comp, unemployment, other bennies that come with a regular job? FORGET ABOUT IT. On your own means "on your own."
You will work 18 hours a day most days and if you're lucky you might be able to skim off enough to equal minimum wage. You don't get to start driving big cars and smoking cigars until your business grows enough to profit your personal income. Generally this doesn't happen for the first three years . . for some businesses, it never happens.
Please don't take this negatively, look for the truth in it: most people who have the impression owning your own business is better than working for someone only feel this way because you're too good to work a job like most people but don't have any money or a clue about how you'd make it happen.
The only justification for going into business for yourself? Awesome business skills OR an undying passion for the subject of your business. Without one or both of these, you're doomed already. |

Nobody questions the fact that good child care facilities are critically important. The problem is being able to run one, keep your sanity, and not go broke. My first recommendation would be that you think of this kind of business only if it is a passion for you...not just because it is something you can do. Here is some free advice from an old guy--think of your husband's resistance as a warning flag that you MAY be going down the wrong path with your current idea...if that is the case, try a few other ideas on him and see if he gives you any more positive signals.
You might think of contacting some of your regional low-income programs (variations of welfare). Child care is a major issue for these programs. I've helped a few people start child care businesses this way and I can tell you it isn't easy....but can be done. One of the best projects I started was to take someone that wasn't low income, and partner them with clients from a low-income program. That worked for three reasons--the first is that it helped the programs deal with client-participation requirements; second is that it serves a program essential need; and third is that it provides a microenterprise solution for self-sufficiency. |

Educate your husband about the potential you a mothers sees in that business it is also for you a way to financial independence. Rent is not enough for your second scenario your best scenario is to have the day care at your place. If you own your house try to convince your husband there is probably a way out depending on how big your house is and how you can modify it. |

First you need to figure out what you want to do. Starting your own business is a big leap and to start something without fully thinking it through is destined for failure. I disagree with the 1 fella that says people who start their own businesses are too good to work a job like most people. If all entrepreneurs felt that way, we would have no WalMart, Microsoft and many others. The money you make is dependent upon the type of business you start, your level of dedication to that business and realistic goals. I've been in business for 7 years and have been able to offer my family far more that I ever could when I was an employee and that's plenty being a single mom of 2. I do agree however, that you are "every woman" until you can earn enough to get some help. Very large commitment and if your family doesn't buy in, you're in for a tough time. If hubby is willing to help and he has a job with benefits, then you already have one aspect of the objections most people have covered for benefits and if he pays the bills you have that much going for you too. Well, I can tell you. I started 3 months ago without noting. There are some affiliate programs for free, just like SFI.
You need to know what you want. Do you have a passion or hobby. You can use them to make your business profitable. I did the same. I am a real traveler, I love it very well. Now I have my own travel agency on the web.
Do you like tea, so start to sell tea. Make a party at your home, invite your friends and tell them what you sell.
SFI has a large scale of products -also tea- to sell.
