Pampered Chef or Tastefully Simple?
Which company is better for being a consultant?

While I am a Pampered Chef rep, I have worked closely with a Tastefully Simple rep. That being said, I am not trying to be biased.. Here are a couple of BIG differences:

Both party plans offer 1/2 price items to their hosts depending on the show total. With PC, the consultant does not pay anything for these, they just don't make commission on the 1/2 price ones. With TS, the consultant pays a fee for the 1/2 price items.
With PC, either you or your host can pick up the ingredients. If you choose to, you can collect the $$ for the grocery bill. With TS, the "kit" that you give the host costs around $9.00 (so I'm told).
With PC, the products are shipped directly to the host along with bags to pack the orders in. All at no cost to the consultant. And the shipping charges are really not that bad. The host doesn't pay shipping, and each guest order is charged $4.00 regardless of the order total.
With TS, the order is sent to the consultant. You have to pack it up and purchase the bags to do it. Then, you have to deliver to the host or each customer. That's a big chunk of time, which equals money.
The good things about TS are that their price points are reasonable, and their products are great!! I use them all the time. I just order direct and pick my stuff up myself...
And, because they offer a consumable product, re-orders happen often as people run out.
Here's the biased part...while PC does offer some consumables, most of the products are not. However, the quality is "addictive" for a lot of people. Our show averages are higher resulting in the host getting more free and discounted products.
I wouldn't mind discussing more with you...but this post is already way too long. Feel free to contact me.

I think the things that matter most are:

#1 the compensation plan

#2 policies and procedures - do I have to recruit also? Do I have to have so much in sales, how much, do I have to requalify? What is the annual renewal rate, etc???

#3 how saturated is the area you are in with reps already

#4 Once I go through my warm market, where am I going to get leads?

If I'd look at these things first instead of afterwards, I could have saved myself a lot of grief.

I am a TS consultant and as you can imagine would definitely say go with TS. In response to a previous post, the orders from a TS party all get direct shipped to the guests so once the party is over the host is done. No bagging, no delivering, the host's order goes to the host with their freebies and stoneware, and the guests orders all go directly to them. As for my favorite part, reorders! I have a reorder business that is consistent enough to pay my car payment every month! I do very few parties, more vendor events, and I still have a reorder business enough to pay for my car. I go on vacation and come home to orders in my in box. It's great! Obviously the more events and parties I do the more I make, but my reorder business is fairly self sustaining, and that I love. I was with a different DS company before Tastefully Simple and I had to work MUCH harder for a lot less return.

Hope that helps.

I have hosted both and find pamper chef to be too much work and limited in sales. I have a Tastefully Simple party every year and I have a great turn out. It is a consumable product so you also get reorder business. It is not as much work for the host which is important in getting people to have shows. The product makes great gifts for man and women so you can give it for many occasions. I also believe the commission is higher in Tastefully Simple.

I am a Director with The Pampered Chef and would (as you would imagine) strongly recommend our company. One of the great things about PC is that we don't have to purchase products for re-sale. When an order is placed with us, the order is shipped to the host from our Home Office in Chicago. We don't have to keep merchandise and we don't have to make deliveries. This is a big bonus in the direct sales industry.

I did a show just the other week where one of the customers was a former Tastefully Simple consultant, and she said that the down-fall for her was that she had to keep so much product on hand. And that when she did a demo at a show, that the product that she used came out of her own pocket, and it just got to be too expensive.

And, while you probably only need one lemon zester (as per the previous respondant), our product line changes twice a year, and we usually add 40 - 60 new products with each new catalog. That means there are always new products available to our customers. And, as they also said, everyone eats, so having the right tools and techniques just makes your time much more quicker, easier and enjoyable!

If you would like more information, please contact me via my personal website: www.pamperedchef.biz/normankehe

I think tastefully simple would be better. I have had a couple friends who were consultants. It just seems like a more logical get together, over food... rather than a "gadget" party.

Everyone eats, so many people cook. If they use and like the product they will have repeat orders. Ie. I used all the garlic garlic I bought and got some more when I had the chance.

For pampered chef? there are only so many lemon zesters a sane woman can use.

Hi Karen,
First and foremost, you need to go with what you are passionate about. You also need to feel a connection with your upline and feel confident that they will be there for you to TRIM you (Train, Recognize, Inform and Mentor).

As a TS consultant for 6 years, I LOVE food and this company. Food is always in style and it's consumable, so you'll get more reorders. People love to eat and are always looking for great meal ideas and easy food to make.

Either way, good luck with your decision. If you'd like anymore info let me know.

Check out the website, www.tastefullysimple.com/web/ssmiley they have a new consultant signing incentive going on now. Business Blast off Kit is reduced to 3 payments of $39 each :) Everything is included in the kit to get you started:)
