Andrew S | Problem Employee - Dealing with an Immature Employee? |
Afternoon all
I have a problem, I work for a small company, total 7 staff. I dont normally get annoyed or bothered by things however I am working with someone I clash with. This employee constantly disregards the rules and others in the office, playing music out loud when management are away, personal calls within busy periods, constantly swearing etc... you get the picture.
If this person was good at her job, and or didnt affect people around her this wouldnt be a problem. however...
I have discussed these topics with her in a professional and mature way. But was dismissd or not listened to - others have tried also.
What do I do next?! I dont want to rub anyone up the wrong way, I simply want to get on with my job! |

Unless she hears it from management, she won't listen. As far as she's concerned, she hasn't actually gotten in any trouble for this, so there's no problem.
If her behaviour is actually interfering with your work (like you can't hear customers over her music -- more than just being annoyed by it and distracting yourself), then talk to your manager once more and ask him or her to put an end to it. Otherwise, this is their problem to deal with and they don't feel it's a problem worth addressing.
Not that I don't sympathize, but if your boss doesn't care what she does while they're out, then all you'll accomplish by sticking on this is alienating yourself. |

I would document the activity as much as you can. After you have proof of her actions and specific examples you can go to your boss/management team and let them know that their business is not as effective as it could be. If management is willing to let their employees behave unprofessionally, it may be in your best interest to find a more professional atmosphere for yourself. Hope this helps. |

Carry on with your job. For a small company something positive will happen soon. |

It sounds like she knows this type of behavior is inappropriate, otherwise she would do it while the boss is there, not just when he's away, and if you present your case to the boss it's likely that he would say "I will have to see it for myself to have grounds for termination, etc". If you've tried to talk to her calmly and professionally and that had no effect then I would have 1 other solution for you. You're going to have to get all up in her face, tell her in "lamans terms" (go redneck if you have to) exactly what your problem with her is and exactly where she can "put" her loud music and personal calls! Then after all is said and done disassociate yourself from her completely, have no interaction, correspondence, etc.. with her what so ever eventually this will either drive her away (to quit) or at the very least she will stop trying to involve you with her pettiness, and you will have some peace. Believe me i've put this theory to the test several times and it works, but my sister is the master at it! Best of luck |

Report her to the manager and give specific times and dates. If they do nothing then take out a grievance against her and speak to the manager again. |

It's time for your fellow coworkers and you to go to your boss together. Let your boss know your efforts. Good luck. |
