The Girl | Problem buyer in eBay...? |
Hello,
My father's recently diagnosed terminal illness has left me in a position where my sister and I cannot leave the country.
We are supposed to be attending a music festival in Europe next weekend, so instead of writing it off, we listed the tickets on eBay to give someone else a chance to go.
The tickets were with my sister in at her univeristy, and she was to bring them home this weekend so that I could post them off if they sold (recorded next day, locations were also stated in my description).
I put a reasonably low starting price in order to encourage a quick sale. My only bidder contacted me before the close of auction to enquire whether she could pick the tickets up. She did not specify from where she would pick them up, so I confirmed that the tickets would be with me in the Midlands at the date the auction ended. I heard nothing else from her until tonight after she won them. Additional Details She tells me that the tickets are actually for her brother, and that rather than paying Paypal fees and so that her brother didn't have to reimburse her etc, he would come and collect them (again she doesn't say from where) and pay cash. I said that at this point I could only accept Paypal, and that collection was not an option (my father's illness), as stated in my description. A message then comes saying that I had told her that collection would be possible. At no point did I agree to a collection, and cash was not even mentioned until the auction ended.
I feel backed into a corner. Surely her brother reinbursing her is not my problem, and if she really wants the tickets they should have thought about that before the bid..? She is putting word into my mouth when at no point did I agree to anything...
Please help...! |

Technically, whatever you put into the Ebay Listing is what the buyer must agree to. If your listing stated the type of shipping and payment options available to the buyer, then you should stick with that. If the buyer lives relatively close to you and you are comfortable with her picking up the tickets from you, then you can def do that. My advise is to stick with the original terms of your listing. If the buyer has a problem with that, she should have never placed a bid in the first place. If the buyer is outright lying about any communications you have had with her, contact ebay and place a dispute against her. Let the buyer know that SHE placed a bid on this item, SHE read the information associated with the item, and SHE agreed to it. Stick to your guns and let her know, the sooner she pays, the sooner she will get the item. Maybe if you are not pressed for cash, you can upgrade the shipping so she gets the tickets faster...maybe then she will be more inclined to complete the transaction on YOUR terms. Hope this helped! |

you did state (before auction ended) that picking up the tickets was okay, (or you certainly interred this by stating where the tickets would be, that pick-up would be okay)
Accepting PayPal for goods collected is not a problem, as long as you print of a PayPal packing slip and have the buyer sign this as proof of collection (this way the signature is actually for the goods described, and not just a parcel as it would be by RoyalMail and/or carrier service.
Personally I would prefer a buyer collected goods I sold on e-Bay and paid cash on collection, thus avoiding PayPal fees, cash in hand is better than waiting 7-10 working days for PayPal to transfer money to your bank account. |

Contact Ebay and tell them whats happened. I would open a dispute and report her as a non-payer, as you specifically stated on your auction that it is paypal only and no collection. |

Never accept paypal for a picked up item. You have no protection. If they pick it up only accept cash. |

PayPal guarantees you get paid.
If Buyer wants to save shipping by all means let them pick it up, but have them sign a receipt
(a printed copy of the paypal invoice would work). You still have to pay ebay fees, but buyer saves the shipping. |

♦ Well she may have misunderstood, she may have thought she (or family member) could pick them up, since she wrote you before the auction end, and you told her where you are located "Midlands".. she may have thought that was you saying yes, even tho you didn't actually say it.. On the other hand, how much could the paypal fees be? she should just pay for the items threw paypal and take the "fees" up with her brother. Just explain to her that sorry if she misunderstood, but that you really can only except paypal.. hopefully she will pay, and you won't have any future problems. If she doesn't pay, then you need to notify Ebay about her 'non-payment'.. Hopefully this will all be straightened out soon, and you'll have no more probs... ~ |

this is what I would do,
Inform the person that the agree'd auction was for paypal payment, and item would be posted, and seeing as they are not complying with that, you are entitled to cancel their bid (give them a chance to reply to this)
if they dont, then cancel bid, and offer tickets to the next highest bidder |

If she want to pick up the ticket.. Make sure, you met her in crowded place, ok its a lot safer with lot of ppl around you. Ask here to retarct her bid and you can claim your final value fee later on. So listing is free.. :D Ask her to pay cash, not paypal as you paypal will get the money back when she dispute the transaction if you dont have shipping confirmation or proof.

what you should do is depending on how long the concert is get them to do a postal order to your house if you don't want to do that then say you should read my description and I'm afraid i can not meet you and if he don't want to have that then contact eBay as your on the right side and if you have enough time re-list it hope this helps. |

If it's not too late, cancel their bid - you can do that if the payment hasn't been received.
Then re-list the tickets. Also you can block them from bidding again.
It's a bit drastic, but it clears the 'greyness' out of the whole issue. |

You stipulated payment by pay pal and she knew this. Email her and say that due to circumstances, that pick up could not be an option. If she still wants them she will pay via pay pal. |

tell her as long as she pays immediatley she can come and get them if thats ok with you. otherwise state again that it was a paypal only auction and that she needs to pay you by a certain time or you will relist them I think you can do a 1 day auction or a buy it now. |
