There is no rule that prohibits you when to place a bid so long if it's not after the auction has ended. The trick here is, the bidding page only shows the "highest" bid rather than the "actual" bid.
The highest bid indicates who is winning the auction but it does not show their actual bid. For example. You bid $50.00 on an item but the amount required to be in the bidding process is $25.00.
The $25.00 will appear to everyone else who views the item but it does not display your highest bid. If someone else wants the item and bids $26.00 to take over the auction, they will be denied because you have entered in your MAXIMUM bid of $50.00.
That user will have to keep bidding until they pass your $50.00. The same is applied if it was the other way around. You do not know someone else's maximum bid. You might lose the auction if it comes down to the last second simply because someone's maximum is extremely high and you bid too low to defeat them. |

Oh yeah, you can totally snipe, people do it all the time. No rules at all. Whoever has the fastest internet connection and best luck. |

yes you can but if the other persons maximum bid is higher then yours you will still lose. plus i bet you that more people will bid on the item when it closer to ending. when you place you bid on an item you bid the most you are willing and the actual bid only goes up a Little and if someone outbids you eBay will automatically place another bid for you until you max amount is reached |

It's called Sniper Bidding! ...and it's completely legit. Go for it! :) ...and good luck! (the only problem you may face is that there are a lot of sniper bidders out there...you just have to be the fastest gun fighter in the west....or have a fast connection)
peace. |

There aren't any rules against that, but it is difficult to manually get in the highest bid at the last minute. Someone can bid $50 on an item, but the price will be set at the next lowest bid until someone else bids a higher price. Bidding under $50 will only drive up the price for the person who bid highest. This is why it's difficult. You never know for sure how much the highest bidder has actually bid, therefore, bidding a dollar more than the price is not usually likely to get you the item.
There are some programs out there that automatically place the highest bid at the last second for people who really want an item. Unfortunately, I don't remember the names of these programs. They can be great for those that use them, as they more or less ensure that you will get the item. However, it's impossible to know if someone is using it on a particular item. Someone else's use of the program may make it impossible for anyone else to get the item. |

It is perfectly legal. It is called sniping. The best case is to get your bid in with 6 - 10 seconds left. You can do it manually, but it is a pain and it means you have to be in front of your computer and ready to go before the auction ends.
I would suggest you use http://www.bidslammer.com/. They offer a free trial. I have used them for a couple of years and they are good. Also, you can search on line for "ebay auction sniping program" to find others.
What ever method you use to bid, I would suggest you decide now what is the absolute maximum amount you are willing to pay. Remember to consider shipping when deciding what the item is worth. If you use a sniping software, put that amount in and let it do its job. If you are going to bid manually, then have that amount in the bid amount box and ready to go.
Buyers are smarter now and sniping is common, so don't be surprised if the bid starts rising in the last few minutes.
Good Luck! |

I suggest doing it maybe 15 minutes before but I don't think they have rules on that. |

thats the best way to do it otherwise you will drive the price up more leading up to the end.
Most people dont realise this and they get into bid wars and durrr they end up paying more for the product than the next one with a "buy now" option. |

You can place a bid at the last minute, but make sure your bid is substantial in case they want it badly and have placed a high bid that you will have to meet. You will read a lot from cry babies who say sniping isn't fair, boo hoo lol. Just bid the maximum that you are willing to pay. Good luck. |

yea its called sniping and ebay has no rule against it...some auctions whenever someone bids at the last few minutes they will extend the end time but ebay doesnt.
it probably wont do you too much good because most people bid at the end just like you anyway and also when you bid you put in the max amount you want to pay for it so it will automatically bid up to that amount. say my max bid is $100 but the bid is only at $65 then if you try to outbid me for $66 then ebay will automatically rebid mine for $67(or whatever the increment is) up until my $100 limit |
|

PS
|
snipe it !
but leave yourself a few seconds to bid again, in case you get out bid.
I would snipe it with 25 seconds to go. If you get outbid, you can snipe again if the price is still low enuff. |

You can bid however you want to bid. If you want to wait til the last minute good luck. People wait all the time which is why you have a watch list. |

Yes you can up your bid till the very last second. Be careful though, You usually end up paying way to much for the item when you get into a bidding war with someone. I would suggest locking in the highest price you are willing to pay and don't go any higher. |

You can place bids on ebay until the very last seconds and that is perfectly fine (most people do that). Just make sure that there isn't a reserve, which means that the seller doesn't have to sell unless the bid reaches a certain amount. |

you can. but i would do it with the last 5 minutes do it so you have time. good luck |
|

Wutz it worth 2 ya?
 |
Wait until you have like 1 minute and 5 seconds left, place a bid like $5 higher if you REALLY want it, wait a few more seconds, and sent it through. They won;t have time to place a new bid! I did that before on a Fern Michaels book my Mom really wanted. Shhhhh, it's our secret. |
