I am wanting to start selling low cost items on EBAY. Due to the fees that I will need to pay to EBAY and Paypal, whats the lowest price that i should ask for something and still be able to make money? It seems to me that some people sell stuff and actually lose money after they pay all the fees. |

You're right. The challenge is in finding out what similar items are selling for. You need to price your items competitively, but don't be the lowest price.
Look at it from the buyer's perspective. When I shop on e-bay, I sort everything by lowest price first. But I never bid on the first item I see. |

Your best bet would be to research ebay and see if the items you want to sell are actually selling that way you can find out how much to sell for and what will sell |

When I list something on Ebay I try to add up all the fees that I know I will be charged. For example the insertion fee, extra picture fee, estimate the closing fees and what I think paypal will charge. Add everything together and try to ask for maybe double. You can also make a little money on shipping. Don't be like some people and charge $20 to ship something when in reality it only cost $3. You will get the hang of it after a while. Good luck. |

You can loose money on ebay selling things. Just add up the fees, and shipping and put your markup on it. Remember tho, ebay charges whether it sells or not!
Do market research on a like product before listing it. What is a like item selling for on ebay now? Do you have it to sell for that and make money after fees?

Perhaps you should specialize in selling "Buy It Now" merchandise. If you know what your cost is, and the amount that you want to make, a Buy It Now item assures you that you will get the price you want, and presumably a profit.
If you're selling stuff you have around your house, or junk you picked up at a garage sale, I'd go with a straight auction. People want to feel they have the chance to get a bargain. I like to start auctions with a low minimum bid in the hopes of getting people interested in bidding. It usually work. I've only been disappointed a couple of time with what an item sold for. Most of the time, I'm surprised at what someone was willing to spend. Just write a good description and take good pictures of what you're trying to sell. Also, I think that fair shipping charges go a long way getting people interested in bidding on your goods. |

you need to work out what the listing will cost you and add that to your initial outlay....
i am a seller...my listings cost me $1.59 as i use a gallery pic plus then i pay 5% on the final sale amount (FVF).......so if i list something that costs me $10 i would put the starting price at $15 that way if the item sells with only the one bid i will break even....... |

honestly, if you price something at what you want for it, no one will bid (unless its a very unique and highly wanted item) I always put my auctions at 99 cents or less, the main thing, and it is sad that it happens it to charge a bit more than necessary for shipping. Then you are guarenteed some sort of profit. |
