my previous question was : {i had a girl working for me before and she has left about 2weeks ago... my bank statment shows that some 'refunds' have been made from my business account through my PDQ machine to the same customer sevral times whereas i do not have any documents showing that we had to refund any customer... i think that that girl used the refund option from my business's PDQ machine to steal money... but i have no prove?? what do i do now? }
i have checked with the bank and the transactions have been made into a strange person's account.. all i know about that girl is her name and i have lost her number how can i make sure that it is her ?? and how can the police or bank know ? wil i ever get this money back?? i was robbed £3000

Ok, if you had an employee and all you knew was the person's name and phone number then you had problems to begin with. Don't you have to report employment to the government? What about payroll taxes and so forth? Besides, it is good business to know your employees and know their background and information. Comes in handy in preventing stuff like this from happening and comes in even handier when trying to track down someone who stole from you.
If all you have is the person's name, then how can you even prove the person worked for you? It would be pretty easy for the girl to say that you are crazy and that she never has worked for you before in her entire life. Without being able to document her working for you, you would have no way to prove that she did work for you. Do you have other employees like this? If so then you need to take care of that.
From all of this, I am suspecting that you may not have a great record of purchases and refunds at your place. You may want to put a better system in place. You may want to also get the credit card machine to require authorization before a refund can be given thru it.
That is the heart of your problem: you have no proof. Learn from this and find a better system. Maybe even spend more money and hire a consultant to go over your system and give you a critique. That might save you money in the long run. Who knows how many small incidents have passed below your radar. You have have lost more money than you think. |

Be a more responsible Human Resources Manager. If you own a business it is your obligation to know more about a person than just their first name. Shame on you. You need to report the transactions as fraud to your bank. Some banks/credit card companies have policies about refunding monies that have been stolen or are fraudulent charges. Ask about it. |

If I was you I would get the police involved in this as this is the only way you can get the info on who's account that money has gone into.
The should be able to get the account holder's details or whether the account holder is anyway related to this girl.
If you report the theft then there could be a chance of you getting money back. |
