Selling Mary Kay or Avon??
Hey

What's the start up costs for each company? And how hard is it to find customers? Are you able to sell through a website or do you have to meet people in person?
Additional Details
Thanks, guys. You're making me think about this a bit more. :)

Honestly?!

I would not recommend either one of them to anybody who is serious about being rewarded for their efforts accordingly and who wants to earn a real income.

Way too many people already sell this product practically to each other and competing with countless other products on the market, all claiming to be the best. Just check any flee market or e-bay where tons of people are trying to get rid of their overstocked inventory that nobody wants to buy from them.

Providing you are serious about starting a business of your own, contact me at GMAIL address listed in my profile. I'll forward an information evaluation steps where you will gain the knowledge of criteria to chose the right company that fully corresponds with YOUR needs, not company's and most of all with YOUR goals, not those who want to sponsor you.

Hey back at you!
All's I know is I had a friend named Kathy (maybe you've heard of her, maybe not) she made a tuckload of $$$ selling Avon in strip clubs

Before venturing to sell Mary Kay or Avon products via your own website, you should first check with your distributor in order to find out whether or not you can actually sell their products via the Internet. In most cases, it is not permitted since the corporate entities of Mary Kay and Avon reserve that right to sell on the Internet as their exclusive jurisdiction.

Good luck!

The kit costx $10 in a face to face appt or you can sign up online for $20 (see profile for more info) and you will receive everything you need to get started with Avon, including:
o 10 brochures for your current campaign
o 10 brochures for your next campaign
o One box of product Samples
o 1 order book
o Getting Started Booklet
o Open the door to your Future
o Jump Start your Business
o Avon Dreams made real
o 12 Recommendation cards
o 5 collection envelopes
o 1 credit card voucher
o Rich & Famous of Avon 3
o Avon Tote Bag
o And more…………..

I find Avon easy to sell. In my first year I've sold $20K in products. I sell to friends, family, coworkers, neighbors, leave brochures at deli's and bag them and leave them by mailboxes around town. I have approx 60 customers and have found if fairly easy to find them.

Avon has quality affordable products and a large variety so there is something for everyone.

You can sell through the website or locally...my recommendation is to do it BOTH ways to maximize your earnings. Your commission for online sales is 20%.

If you sell to people locally the commission is as follows:

For your first campaign you will earn 50% commission when you place your order online. For your Second, Third, and Fourth campaigns, you will earn 50% commission provided your orders are greater than $50, and you place your orders online. After your first four campaigns, the commission structure is as follows:
Order Size Earnings
$1550 or more 50%
$900 - $1549 45%
$425 - $899 40%
$285 - $424 35%
$145 - $284 30%
$25 - $144 20%
$00 - $24 0%
Licensed products are earned at 20% commission.

I hope that helps. I have more faq'a and info about Avon on my profile. If you have any other questions feel free to contact me

Hi
I think Sandra D. had some good info. Also it is difficult to find customers because you have to meet people in person most of the time to get new customers. MK has a website you can join so your customers can shop online with you. But most of your business is generated by personal contact.
Best of luck!

mary kay can cost up to $1300 or more, depending on the package that you go with. last i checked avon cost $10. i wouldn't recommend mary kay unless you already have a well established group of friends who are sure they will buy. i tried it over a year ago. my "recruiter" was very pushy and wasn't really there for me. she ended up talking me into buying way more product than i could afford or sell. so now i have a closet full of crap that i will never use. with avon you don't have to keep any inventory, you can just order what/when you want. so if you're serious about it, give avon a try.

In my opinion I would go for avon. I feel no stress or prssure in selling. and if it doesn't work 4 u its no big loss in the end. MK is more expensive to buy and more thought processing going into ur selling because u have to keep up with inventory. I would also say look at what sells in ur area put ur ear to the ground as they say and see whats hott. cuz in my metro area avon sells better that MK but this may be different in ur area. avon sells itself practicully and honestly whatever uchoose what u put into either one is what ur gonna get out of it. u have to be a self starter and and have a go getting attitude without being pushy to ppl. I have been known to be an introverted type person, but I have just started selling avon and it has been exciting for me although my cliental is not where i would like it to be.then u also have to know how to manage ur funds well. not buying things for ur self right off the bat is key to seeing ur profit and not having to come out of ur pocket for anything like books or samples. which are important for both avon and MK

the start up cost was 10 for me but it can be up to 20 if there is no one in ur area who sells avon and the actuall company has to ship everything to u from a far distance. the things u get in the start up kit is books for two campaigns and samples, preview books that only reps can see u also get dicounts books so that u can purchase things for ur self or for bigger and better sample to have on hand. u also get helpful paper info a order book calander and tax sheet for ur state and much more that Im sure i may be leaving out, although not purposely

with MK it depends on ur chioce in package ne where from 100 bucks on up. and since im trying to make more $$ than I spend the 10 bucks worked best for me.

also avon does have the option to set up a web account so that u are able to sell to firends relatives or etc all across the country. its called being an eRepresentative. but u also have to meet ppl in person cuz not everyone owns a computer
with MK I believe they also have online feature similar to what i just described

best of luck to you and to which every to choose I wish u happy selling.

When I signed up, Avon was $20 but that included some materials.
I've heard Mary Kay is more expensive to start up as you have to purchase alot of product to have on hand. Avon lets you manage that yourself.

So long as you have places to leave catalogs for Avon you would be fine. I find that I set out a catalog and people contact me to buy stuff!

Okay sounds like a lot of emotion here and no facts First which product do you like? I would not be able to sell anything I didn't believe in myself that is why I started MK I used the product for years and decided I had nothing to lose to give it a try. My Mary Kay director sold Avon before Mary Kay and I know several people who sold it. It is a personal preference again get the facts. Avon cost $10 to stat but what do you get for that $10 and as one person said it is very inexpensive so how much do you need to sell to make any money? Mary Kay is more expensive compared to Avon however if you compare it to department store brands you will find it is the same or less expensive and there is a market for it. As for friends and family they are not my customers my customers are people that love the product and especially the service they are too busy to run to the store and try to figure out what they need. MK trains you and supports you based on your own interest of how little or much you want so how and where to meet people is taught to you I meet people everywhere grocery store, doctors office hair dressers, etc. with that said here are some facts
MK cost $100 to start for that $100 you get $323 in full size products samples business supplies and much more. You get training materials DVDs and CDs. Don't let anyone tell you you have to buy inventory it is completely optional. You can take orders as with Avon or you can run you business like a store and stock products only you can decide what is best for you. Both companies are well established and well known so back to by original question which do you like I share something I love so I never feel like I am selling I provide service to customers and Love what I do. MK offers a website for $25 for the first year. The other nice thing is the book only comes out 4 times a year quarterly so you don't buy books all the time.
Hope this has answered you question again I can't stress enough to get facts to make your decision most women make emotional decisions and there is a lot of incorrect information about both companies going around.

From what I've seen from those who sell Avon, they are a slave to it. Who really wants to be a slave to their job? Buying books every campaigne, passing them out to never see them again, and then people don't pay when their stuff comes in. Then you fall out of different levels of pay if you don't keep up the sales. The makeup sucks, I think compared to a lot of great makeup lines out there.

I've tried several things in Mary Kay. I found my lady through the Mary Kay website and I am able to purchase from her online. She's offered me to sell Mary Kay but right now that's not a priority in my life. I do know it's 100 to get started but you get everything you need to get started in that showcase. If I remember correctly, you get well over 300 dollars worth of products and materials.

If I had to pick between the two, I'd definitely say Mary Kay. They are so professional looking all the time (at least mine is).
