I'm selling my Sony Vaio Laptop for $1600. I put it up on Craigslist and within 2 days, I got a response from a lady who's in Greece for a conference meeting/work. She wants me to ship the laptop to West Africa for her daughter. She said she would pay the shipping for global express. Also, she said she would pay the amount through paypal before I ship it. Could this be a scam? or does it sound pretty secure? |

100% SCAM, DON'T FALL FOR IT.
They used a hacked or stolen credit card, they deposit the money into your paypal account. You will happily ship the laptop, take the money out of your paypal account and spend it. Couple of weeks/months later you will be contacted by paypal letting you know there will be a charge back in your account because the funds you got were stolen. This happens once the credit card owner realizes the charges and disputes with his credit card, paypal policies state they are obligated to return the money. If you already spent the money you will be liable for it.
This is a very common scam. |

It is a scam.
They will pay with a hacked paypal account. So even through you get the money at first pay-pal will get it back from you after you ship it and they learn the account was hacked.
Also don't fall for her sending a certified check. |

You will never be paid.

This just smells so bad I think Chris Hanson from Dateline would love to meet her.

If you decide to go ahead anyway, be sure to check with the US Customs Service prior to shipping or your computer may be seized. They are very particular about technology exports. |

West africa is not covered by paypal seller protection. however, all should be ok, if you keep this in mind, you should make sure she has a verified bank and address on paypal, and that you are shipping to that address. keep in mind that shipping overseas will cost more than you might think, get an estimate on the shipping. make sure you ship via some form of shipping with signiture required. these steps will ensure your not paying too much for shipping(that she pays the delivery)
To be covered on the Seller Protection Policy at Paypal, all of the following conditions must be met:
Only the first $5000 in contested sales are covered per year.
You must be a Verified Business or Premier Account.
Only good if both parties are from: US, UK or Canadian.
The payment is listed as "Seller Protection Policy Eligible" on the Transaction Details page. How do you know if it's "eligible?" I could find no "eligibility requirements" on the site. Here is how they say to check:
"To see the Transaction Details for a payment, log in to your PayPal account and click the History subtab of the My Account tab, then click the Details link next to the transaction in question. If a transaction is not listed as "Seller Protection Policy Eligible" it will not be covered under the Seller Protection Policy |
