and i know there are certain things which you can't sell in schools in the UK eg. sweets

Don't do it for charity - do it for profit.
When I was 15 I had a chain of 4 tuckshops at various points around the school. Fully funded by myself with no interference and meddling from the teachers.
They closed me down after a year because I was hurting sales of the schools own canteen! |

I know that in the U.S., you must be a federated non-profit organization to sell, even in a school. If you are set up with a tax exempt number, you may still have to ask permission from the principle. If you are not tax exempt, you may need to have a business license, and also get permission from the principle of the school. I sold home made candy in my grade school, and became very well known for this. It started to disrupt classes, as many kids were ordering and eating my candy during class hours. I even had parents sending their children to school with checks and large orders for gift giving. The school principle treated me like I was a drug dealer. He said that without a business license, I would be suspended from school. I was only 12 years old, and it was just easier to stop that to go through the legal paperwork. I think if I had asked permission before hand, and kept my sales between class periods, it would have had a better outcome. Good luck to you, whether this if for profit or for charity! |
