i need some gd advice and tips on how to sell stuff on ebay, as i have never used it before and i am thinking of selling something on it? |

Ok, fairly broad question and so a long(ish answer), although all the above are also correct:
- do your research first. On Ebay's Advanced Search option, you can see how much items have sold for in the last 14 days - just type in some key words for your items and tick the 'completed' box. This will give you an idea of what price range you are looking at. If you ignore everything else below, do this one thing.
- unless you have something that's going to be popular and search for by many people, I would recommend NOT starting at 99p. Or it might sell for only 99p! Once you've decided on a fair price (one you're happy with and seems in keeping with what your research tells you the item sells for), consider putting it on as Buy It Now. That way, you don't have to wait 7 or 10 days for it to finish.
- take as many clear photos of the item as possible, especially if it's something that tends to be copied e.g. designer goods, DVDs, etc.
- Using a site like Auctiva to set up your listings means you can use as many photos as you want and not pay Ebay a penny.
- Always use a gallery photo. It's a false economy to NOT pay 15p when a good pic in the gallery will attract buyers in
- Offer a return policy if you're confident in your goods. It reassures buyers
- Ensure everything is spelt correctly, or people will think the ad is unprofessional and will be less sure about buying.
- make sure your descriptions are positive, professional-sounding and contain sufficient relevant detail about the item (dimensions, exact model number, what 'paperwork' comes with the item, etc).
- Check out other people's listing for the same type of item, and see what's good about the ones that sell for the most money. Look to imitate the good elements that you see.
- if you add the RRP in the title, people can see what a bargain they're getting |

** Make sure you describe things clearly - the condition etc.
** Check the postage at the post office - then you won't undercharge and lose money or charge too much and have buyers moaning
** Have a value of the item in mind - if it sells for 0.99p will you be happy? have a good realistic starting bid - the lower it is usullay gets people started
** also remember if you offer Paypal - the will charge you a percentage of how much you get, as Ebay will!
**always take pictures - without a picture, even the original - eby offer pics on books - people wont pay as much.

Always and I mean ALWAYS offer insured postage besides normal uninsured - this way if it goes missing you are not responsible - if sending uninsured get proof of postage from the post office. |

I have tried to sell a couple of things on there and have had no luck, but I have a friend who sells things daily ... I think the main thing is to make sure to categorize your items correctly ..

I have 252 transactions with all positive feedback on there. My success has been from using large, good pictures and thorough descriptions of the item and any defects with it.
I usually set the shipping high enough to also have a few Dollars towards eBay and Paypal expenses. The advantage is that you don't pay commission on that to eBay and since a lot of sellers do that, most people are OK with that. Anybody with any brains will always take the shipping charges into consideration when bidding on something.
I have a hosting service, and upload my pictures to that, with pointers (hyperlinks) from the auction page to those, thus I can add as many pictures as I want without being charged for those by eBay.
By following the above I have sold used items of a type for MORE than others got for the same item brand new! Large pictures and good descriptions sell big time. |

Above all be honest. In your description and your posting costs. If the item is faulty, say so.
Don't inflate the cost of p & p.
Put it on with a photo.
Put it on for 7 days.
Only accept paypal. Cheques will bounce! echeques take 10 days to clear.
Your honesty will be reflected in your feedback score. Anything less than 98% is viewed with suspicion.
If you do all the above you will get a lot of pleasure/money out of using ebay. It is fun and can be addictive! |
